Mourinho delivers ultimate snub to World Cup and double European championship winning goalkeeper Casillas by leaving him out of his final Real squad

Jose Mourinho has dished out a final insult to Iker Casillas by leaving the World Cup winner out of his last squad as Real Madrid boss.

Saturday’s final La Liga game of the season at home to Osasuna is Mourinho’s last in charge of Madrid after a turbulent season in which he fell out with club captain Casillas.

Casillas has earned 143 caps for Spain, winning two European Championships and a World Cup. He has clocked up over 600 appearances for Real, where he holds legendary status.

Yet the 32-year-old was dropped by Chelsea-bound Mourinho in December.

The controversial Portuguese then signed Diego Lopez to take over as No 1 before Casillas injured his hand.

Casillas returned from injury in April but has remained out of favour and now - despite Lopez being unavailable for Saturday’s game - Mourinho has not even named the Madrid captain in his matchday squad.

Real will start with the inexperienced Antonio Adan in goal and are also without star man Cristiano Ronaldo, who has not recovered from a back injury in time.

Madrid have nothing to play for and will finish the league as runners-up to Barcelona, leaving them without a major trophy in Mourinho’s third and final season with the club.
