The governors, alongside the chairman of the faction, Abubakar Baraje, met first with senate president, David Mark. A follow up meeting at the House of Representatives with Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, and members of the House, degenerated into chaos with supporters of the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP jeering at remarks made by Mr Baraje.

The chaos soon escalated after two members, Dagogo Peterside and Henry Ofongo, from Rivers and Bayelsa states respectively, went up against each other.

Mr. Baraje told Mr. Mark that President Goodluck Jonathan must give up his ambition for a new term. (Source: Pemium Times)

Racism Allegation: Keshi Responds To FIFA Query

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, in collaboration with his employers the Nigeria Football Federation, has responded to the query the world football governing body, FIFA issued him. The query is over his alleged racist remark targeted at Malawi technical adviser Tom Sainfiet.
The Nigeria coach was given a September 16 deadline to respond to the query.
The General Secretary of the NFF Musa Amadu who spoke with The Punch on Tuesday confirmed that the response to FIFA’s Zurich headquarters was dispatched on Monday deadline.
He said, “Yes, we met the deadline. The response was sent by email and fax. And today (Tuesday) we are sending the hard copy by courier service.”
Amadu said he was positive that FIFA would understand the background under which the statement was made.
“We’ve explained the circumstances under which the statement was made; it was under normal pre-match antics we see of different coaches.
“Of course we all know that Keshi is somebody who has cross-cultural background and incidentally played his professional football career in Belgium where Saintfiet comes from. He was never involved in any racist row all through his career as a player. His intentions were pure and not the way it appears; they were merely based on football relations.”
The Malawi federation reported to FIFA what it called ‘racist’ remarks by Keshi aimed at the Belgian.
“We feel the racist remarks by Mr Keshi are not acceptable,” FAM’s general secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said after their federation sent official complaint to Zurich.
“We thought it was a personal attack on our coach and we had to defend him regardless of skin. We felt we should help our coach and at the same time put a stop to the racist remarks from Mr Keshi. We have sent evidence of what Keshi said and we hope FIFA will come up with some measures to control Mr Keshi.”
In the phone interview aired on UK-based African television show, Keshi was quoted to have said, “I think the coach of Malawi is crazy. If he wants to talk to FIFA, he should go back to Belgium. He is not an African person, he is a white dude, he should go back to Belgium.”
It is not yet clear what type of sanction may be handed Keshi if found culpable. Active players are usually suspended from a number of matches and fined as well while teams are made to play their games in empty stadiums if their fans are guilty of racist acts. In recent times acts of racism have been rampart in the Italian league while the separate cases involving Luis Suarez and former England captain John Terry made the headlines in English football.
FIFA and other regional football governing bodies have stepped hard against racism in response.

Members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum have called on the Minister of Finance, who is also the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, to resign her appointment if she knew she would not be able to adhere strictly with the Appropriation Act 2013.
They said the non-compliance with the revenue projections of the Federal Government 2013 Budget was also a direct breach of the provisions of the Appropriation Act, 2013.
These decisions were part of the resolutions of the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led NGF, which met in Abuja on Tuesday evening.
States which were represented by their governors at the meeting were those of Rivers, Niger, Kwara, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Adamawa, Oyo, Lagos, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano and Zamfara while deputy governors of Edo, Borno and Nasarawa states represented their governors.
The governors also called for the immediate dissolution of the Economic Management Team.
Reading the communique of the meeting, Amaechi, who was flanked by other members said, “Members expressed concern in the management of the economy by the Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy and called for a strict adherence to the Appropriation Act, 2013, failing which she should resign.
“Forum observed that the National Economic Council is constitutionally responsible for the management of the economy and should be used for that purpose as opposed to the Economic Management Team constituted by the Presidency.”
The governors also called on the National Assembly to separate the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation from that of the Accountant-General of the Federal Government for the purpose of accountability and better management of the economy.
On polio eradication war, the governors said they noted that some progress had been made in 2013 compared to 2012.
They, therefore, enjoined all governors to remain focused and continue to drive the programme in their irrespective states until polio was completely eradicated in the country.
The governors also expressed condolence to the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, for the loss of her foster mother and also condoled with the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Raji Fashola (SAN) over the death of his father.
They also expressed their condolence to the family of a former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu.
Amaechi also announced that the governors would hold a retreat in November, but he did not state where it would hold.
The notice of meeting sent to the governors for the meeting showed that money by the Federation Account Allocation Committee topped the agenda at the meeting.
Also on the agenda was the Excess Crude Account, which had been a major disagreement between the governors and the Federal Government.
The Sovereign Wealth Fund was also discussed.
Amaechi’s opening remark, which kick-started the meeting, dwelt on fresh and subsisting litigations, state peer review mechanism and publication of inaugural speeches by the chairman.
A source at the meeting, said that Amaechi’s speech also covered the capacity building meetings in Galilee Institute, Israel, and investment in the United States of America and Russia.
The source added that oil theft was also part of the issues the governors discussed.
The parallel forum is being led by the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Janng.
Jang and those in his group were not at the meeting.
