PDP May Expel Governor Wamakko, Amaechi

Wamakko-and-Amaechi-360x225
There are strong indications that Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and his Sokoto State counterpart, Alhaji Aliyu Wamako, may be in for tougher times.

Our correspondent gathered in Abuja on Sunday that hardliners within the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party were pushing for their expulsion from the PDP on the grounds that they had remained recalcitrant.

A source in the NWC, who confided in our correspondent, said that the party was prepared to go the “all the way” to instil discipline in its ranks.

He said, “We are not under any illusion about the place of discipline in any organisation, especially in a political party such as ours. The PDP has the capacity to manage its internal issues.
“Yes, we have suspended the two governors and they could be expelled if the need arises. They have remained recalcitrant. We must have a disciplined party.

“Those of them (governors) who are being deceived by the opposition can go if they so wish. We all have a constitutionally guaranteed right of freedom of association.

“The party is insisting on discipline because it is better to go into a battle with a compact, disciplined, loyal and well- equipped army than go with a motley crowd of people pretending to be troops.

“History has shown that such troops will desert you at the most critical point in battle. Let’s look at it this way, who among these governors challenging the President (Goodluck Jonathan) today can take half of what they are giving him (Jonathan) from local government chairmen in their states?

“This is not about Jonathan as a person but about a PDP Presidency and the supremacy of the party. We are prepared to expel them if it becomes necessary.”

However, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, denied knowledge of any such a move.

Metuh, who said the mood within the party was that of peace and reconciliation, explained that the PDP had been receiving pleas from well-meaning Nigerians and party elders concerning the matter.

He assured that, “We are not taking an extreme position since everybody is preaching peace. By tomorrow (today), we will look at our (PDP) constitution and do what’s best for the party.”

Going into specifics about the two cases, he said, “In the case of Rivers State, we have an investigative panel in place; so saying anything now will be wrong.

“What I am aware of is that in the case of Sokoto State, we have not instituted any panel yet. We are not unmindful of the peace being preached; we also have to listen to these pleas.

“We have received pleas from our leaders on this and other cases; we will look at them in the overall interest of the system and our party.”

The Publicity Secretary added that the recent constitution of a panel by the President to broker peace within the party was one of the steps towards a lasting peace in the PDP.

The PDP suspended Governor Amaechi hours after he emerged as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

He was alleged to have flouted an instruction by the Rivers State chapter of the party to reinstate the Obiakor Local Government chairman and councillors who were sacked by the State House of Assembly.

Wamakko earned his suspension for alleged gross disrespect and insubordination to the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and his office.

Lagos Stands Still As Tinubu’s Mother, Abibatu Mogaji Is Buried [DETAILS]

Late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji
Late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji

Lagos literally stood still, yesterday, as the President-General, Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, who died last Saturday aged 96, was buried at the Vaults and Garden Cemetery, Ikoyi, amidst eulogies.

Late Alhaja Mogaji was the mother of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Lagos State governor and national leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN.
Tinubu, who recalled his mother’s last moments, said: “On Saturday afternoon, she had her lunch. After that, she took her drugs and rested.

“While resting, death came and snatched my mother away. Immediately she died, I felt her void. She taught everyone she came across contentment, love and the act of sharing, especially to the needy.
“I will miss her lunch even when I am full. I am very happy that she is my mother. She is a very successful mother and a good leader. She departed this world peacefully without taking us through pains.
“She is so kind and God was also kind to her. She is a good thinker and a compassionate person. She has left a very good legacy for everyone.
“She did something when I was the governor of Lagos State that really touched me and that was when she asked me to consider three women, who had challenges paying their children’s West African Examination Council, WAEC, fees.
“As a governor then, I began the policy of paying WAEC fee of pupils in Lagos State public schools. Those are the things that will fascinate anyone about my late mother.
“There are many lessons that women can learn from her. And one of the lessons is to be resilient, committed and industrious in order to help banish poverty in the country. She is a committed democrat.
“She believes in the one-man one-vote campaign. She will vote and mobilise others to do so. Women must also be committed to the education of their children, which is the antidote for poverty in the country. Once we come out of this, the nation will make progress.”
At 8:00am, the Alausa residence of Mogaji became a beehive of activities, as hundreds of party loyalists, relatives and friends to her children thronged her premises to honour her.

A great national leader— Fashola
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, who is out of the country on an official trip, in a statement through his Special Adviser on Media, Hakeem Bello, described her death as a great national and personal loss.
Fashola said she was a forthright defender of the people and their right to economic empowerment, adding that this trait had been imbibed by anyone that had the opportunity or privilege to meet her.
According to him, this peculiar trait was evident in the personality of her illustrious son and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, a leader with the love of the people at heart.
Fashola said: “Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji was a frontliner in the commercial development of Lagos State, particularly Lagos Island, which was formerly dominated by Lebanese and Greek merchants.
“She was one of the pioneer traders, who ventured into the capital intensive and risky business venture of importation of consumer goods, thereby breaking the monopoly previously enjoyed by the foreign tradesmen and her business acumen attracted the attention of multi-national enterprises operating in Nigeria then, who had no option but to register her as a business partner and distributor of their consumer goods in Nigeria.”
Describing the late Iyaloja-General as a great matriarch, Fashola said Alhaja Mogaji did not limit her business and social networking to the confines of Lagos State alone, she always sought the welfare of market men and women and ways of opening up more business opportunities for them.
“This attribute of hers must have informed the unanimous decision of all commercial traders regardless of ethnic, religious or political persuasion to select her as the pioneer Iyaloja/President-General of Nigerian Market Men & Women. A position she handled with utmost responsibility and diligence, he said.
Oshiomhole, Aregbesola pay tributes
In his tribute, Governor Aregbesola of Osun State said: “She was a good mobiliser and a very good organiser. She was a philanthropist, charitable and compassionate. She mentored us so much.”

“I wish to offer the condolence of the people and government of Edo State and my personal commiseration over this loss.”
Abike Dabiri said: “She was a mother per excellence. I knew her from my days at the NTA, and my mother also had a shop and she was under her leadership. I covered her activities as a staff of NTA and I am ever so amazed at her wealth of knowledge and experience and she doesn’t forget.”

Mama was a model mother, industrious woman and philanthropist who brought up her children with the fear of God.

We thank God for her life, she lived a great life, a worthy mother and a strong and committed woman. I think if you say you are celebrating women, Alhaja Mogaji is a foremost woman to be celebrated because she trained a lot of people all over the world.

Shocking story of a man who killed his bestfriend, took over his brand new car in Ondo state

How well do we know our friends? This is just so disheartening..How can
you kill your bestfriend, dump his body and take his car, register in
your own name and even throw a party to celebrate it?
That the story of Damilola Olusolade who has been sentenced to death
by hanging...
Read as The Nigerian Tribune Reports it...
THE State versus Damilola Olusolade's case was as interesting as it
was dramatic from the beginning. Right from the point he confessed to
detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),
Iyaganku in 2010, almost a year after he killed his friend, Ifedayo
Adebisi, and converted the deceased's vehicle to his own use, to the
date of his conviction, it did not cease to marvel many people that
someone could act like Damilola did to his friend, Ifedayo Adebisi,
without any reason, justifiable or not, other than greed or
selfishness.

Since Sunday Tribune carried the story in detail according to
Damilola's confessional statement during interview, the duty fell on
the newspaper to continue to follow the story to see where it would
end.

And the end came last Friday, June 7, at Oyo State High Court 8, Ring
Road, Ibadan when the presiding judge, Justice Folajomi Oyelaran,
handed the accused a death sentence through hanging on count one of
the three-count charge, based on the evidences before her.

Not only that, the convict also got two and three years respectively
on count two and three of the charges which had to do with concealment
of the body and stealing.

The court was filled on the day of the ruling. Lawyers, law school
students as well as law students from some universities were in court
to witness it. It was also observed that aside jailors who usually
accompanied the suspects, a police patrol vehicle with armed policemen
was also stationed within the court premises, an indication to those
who were familiar with court system that the day was a day of
judgement.

It was the justice the family of the deceased had waited for in the
past three years. Though they said that the convict's death would not
replace their son, they were satisfied that his gruesome murder by
someone he regarded as close friend had been avenged.

Getting Damilola to confess to his deeds did not come easy. Either out
of guilt or hard-heartedness, no one could tell. For those who might
not be familiar with the story which was first published in the Sunday
Tribune of October, 2010, Damilola and Ifedayo hailed from the same
town, Owo in Ondo state. Having grown up in the town together, they
attended the same secondary school, after which they went different
ways to pursue their tertiary education.

Fate (?) however brought the duo together when they bumped into each
other at Oba Adebimpe Road, Dugbe, Ibadan on which the organisations
they were both working for were situated. Reliving their teenage
years, the two friends continued their friendship where it stopped
many years back, unknown to Ifedayo that his friend was no longer the
person he knew before.
Ifedayo built so much trust in Damilola that when he needed to get a
vehicle for easy mobility, he contacted his friend and even asked him
to accompany him to Berger area of Lagos, where he wanted to buy the
car. After the purchase of the vehicle, Adebisi allowed his friend to
be the first person to drive the vehicle, unknown to him that he would
never be allowed to savour the joy of ownership.

The convict confessed to have strangulated his bosom friend, Ifedayo,
on December 2, 2009 on their way back from Lagos. Not only did he kill
his friend and dumped his body in the bush along the expressway,
Damilola also went ahead to register the deceased's car in his own
name and even invited his friends to rejoice with him on the purchase
of his new car.
Efforts the deceased's family to trace him through his 'bosom friend'
proved abortive as he claimed ignorant of his whereabouts. But for the
insistence of Ifedayo's mother, Mrs Funmilayo Adebisi Alale, the
disappearance of Ifedayo would have been shrouded in mystery for ever.
This was because Damilola continually and consistently denied knowing
where Ifedayo was.

However, the bubble burst when detectives from the State Criminal
Investigative Department, discovered during investigations that the
accused still used the deceased's sim card to call the car dealers who
sold the vehicle to his friend, that the gear was not working well.

When faced with evidences that he should know his friend's
whereabouts, Damilola caved in and confessed to his crime, saying he
did not know what made him commit the act because Ifedayo was his dear
friend who did not offend him in any way.

He declared peace upon himself after the confession, saying "My friend
used to eat from my pot. If I had the intention of killing him, I
could have poisoned him, which I did not do. After killing him, I went
back to the spot where I dropped his corpse and saw his decomposing
body with the cloth torn. Since then, I had not travelled to Lagos
because I could not bring myself to pass through that place.

"I regret my action but I can't really say what came over me. Why my
friend? He was the breadwinner of the family. Now my family has
deserted me. I have disappointed everyone of them. My mother and my
wife were just weeping. Well, whatever happens, I know that God is a
merciful One and will still accept me even if I have to die."
Ifedayo's mother had once told Sunday Tribune after one of the court
sessions when the convict was on trial: "What Damilola has done to me
is too much. Since Ifedayo's death, I have not been at peace and my
health has failed. I cry every day as Damilola has thrown the entire
family into turmoil with his action."

Also, Ifedayo's immediate younger sister, Oladeji Adebisi had said
that the hearing process should be fast so that the family could have
peace. "Damilola should also be asked what my brother did to him that
made him kill him. He should also be prevailed on to return my
brother's laptop, phone, documents and vehicle that are with him.
Again, Damilola should tell us where Ifedayo's corpse is because it
has not been found till date. My brother was the breadwinner of the
family and his gruesome murder is a deep pain for us,"she said.

Sunday Tribune learnt that Ifedayo's vehicle, a Mitsubishi Space
Wagon, which lay at the premises of the State CID for a long time, had
been handed over to the family. It was also learnt that sentence might
be still be appealed at the appeal and supreme courts but the family
told the Sunday Tribune that they were sure that the same law which
worked against murder cases at the high courts would still be applied
at the higher level

Church Singer and Gang Arrested for Stealing PHCN Wires [PHOTOS]

Residents of Naval Base, Apapa and its environs can now enjoy better
electricity supply from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).
Reason: suspected vandals of their PHCN cables have been arrested

A Kirikiri prisons returnee, a gospel artiste and sales girl were
among the 12 cable thieves recently apprehended by men of the NNS
Beecroft of the Nigerian Navy in an overnight raid on their hideout at
Railway Line, Marine Bridge at Ijora, in Lagos State.

Apart from the Naval Base in the area, the entire Apapa axis is a
highly commercial and industrial layout with an equally large demand
for electricity.

Unfortunately, in spite of the increased generation of electricity as
claimed by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria lately, power has been
a major concern for the axis. On many occasions, these establishments
had had their heavy machineries damaged on account of indiscriminate
power surges that the area is notorious for.

The naval establishment, however, could not take kindly to these
indiscriminate power surges considering the reliance of their
machineries used to power and/or repair their ships on electricity. It
got to a head that the naval authorities approached the Apapa PHCN to
register their displeasure of the development.

The naval officials were shell shocked when the PHCN denied the surges
coming from their end. They had raised the alarm that there might be
some fifth columnists in the naval neighbourhood causing the damage to
their machineries. This then propelled the naval authorities to
commenced intense surveillance of their entire stretch of Apapa.

Their surveillance soon paid off though. Only last week, a group of 12
(11 males, 1 female) cable vandals were apprehended while attempting
to dig up PHCN cables that supply electricity to the area.

Among the vandals was a recently released inmate from the Kirikiri
prisons in Lagos. Found in their possession were about 36 wraps of
marijuana, cutlasses and axes of varying shapes and sizes, diggers,
welding machines and 24 mobile phones.

The ex-prison inmate, Jide Ajayi, 32, was reportedly freed from the
medium section of the Kirikiri prison only last December. Though he
confessed to have joined the gang because he had nowhere to go after
he left prisons, he, however, said his action was driven by hunger and
lack of shelter rather than wholesome attempt at economic sabotage.
"I returned from Kirikiri last December.

I was caught trying to use a NEPA pole to balance a section of the
makeshift house I live now after my return from prisons. I am not
happy that I want to do this work to eat but condition made me do it,"
Ajayi told reporters while the 12 vandals were being handed over to
Lagos Police Command task Force led by one Superintendent Ajani Lateef
at the NNS Beecfort in Apapa.
Another vandal, a self-acclaimed gospel artiste, David Temitayo
Adebanjo, maintained that he only came to the railway line hideout to
have his bath when the naval personnel swooped on them. Adebanjo, 30,
and a native of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, maintained that he was
innocent of the vandalism change proffered against him.

A 2003 school certificate holder, Adebanjo claimed his father retired
from the Nigerian Railways Corporation which made him have access to
the NRC facilities anywhere in the state. "I was arrested as a result
of what they say that some boys went to cut cable wires. They dumped
these cutlasses in front of us and I did not use them.

My father once worked in NRC before he retired. I was taking my bath
that day before God and man. It was a place my father worked before.
There are no houses where people live there. I have never been caught
in crime before in my whole life," Adebanjo said.

Adebanjo, however, admitted that he used to come see his friends in
the hideout where the equipment and several wraps of marijuana were
seized. The only female among the vandals, Ruth Lucky from Umunede,
Delta State, confessed to being the one that purchased the marijuana
for the male vandals before they go for 'operation'.

Lucky, 19, maintained that she was not part of those that cut PHCN
cables as alleged by the naval authorities.

"I smoke Igbo (marijuana) truly. I was in the place where we were
arrested because I came to buy Igbo that I would smoke before the
naval officers came to arrest us," Lucky said tearfully claiming that
her inability to smoke marijuana in the last 24 hours was really
telling on her body.
Some other members of the group however, punctured the claims by the
three suspects saying they were caught in the act.

Addressing reporters at the handover of the vandals to law enforcement
agents, Commander NNS Beecroft, Navy Commodore Chris Odogwu Ezekobe,
lamented the activities of the vandals which he claimed had affected
some of their operations in the past.

"It was after the PHCN officials confirmed to us that the surge in
electricity that we always witnessed was not their making that we
intensified our surveillance we depend on power for the day to day
running of our machineries here. We cannot rely on diesel to run these
machineries.
We then put machinery in motion to get to the root of the matter,
before we traced the surge to vandalized cables around the rail line
close by," Commodore Ezekobe said.

Segun Kosoko, Senior Manager, Public Relations Affairs, PHCN, Apapa,
lauded the navy's initiative to hunt perpetrators of the heinous
crime.

"Vandalism affects every facet of Nigeria's life. When the naval
authorities came to complain to us, we urged them to be on the lookout
for vandals who probably were vandalising the cables supplying the
power.

We have had cases of some of them being electrocuted, and because of
the power outages that we all experience as Nigerians these people
used that to perpetrate their crimes.

Sometimes they cause trouble to cause power surge so that they could
have a field day in carrying out their crime," Kosoko said.

Why I don’t wear my wedding ring— Desmond Elliot

Nollywood hunky actor, Desmond Elliot, has evolved in no small way in
his 14-year-old career. From a 'fine', talented actor, Desmond went on
to directing, which he reveals he finds fulfilling while acting is
rewarding for him. One of the ambassadors of a leading
telecommunication group, Globacom, the father of four has carved a
niche for himself which makes him one of the most sought-after by
movie producers. In this interview with MERCY MICHAEL, the actor
speaks on his staying power, marriage and fatherhood.
In spite of your relevance and steady rise in the industry, you are
among the few stars whose marriages are intact. What do you do
differently?

If you love your home, that is where your heart will be. I'm yet to
see anybody who really loves his home and will want it to break. Do we
have difficulties? Of course! There is no home without its challenges,
oh yes! There are times the woman is tired. There are times the man is
tired too, but most importantly it's understanding yourselves. One
thing I have noticed in a marriage or home is you must understand that
a man is totally different from a woman.

The way a man thinks is totally different from the way a woman thinks.
What a man considers his priority is almost 80 percent different from
what a woman sees as her priority. And the most difficult thing in
this world is a man understanding a woman. But if you understand a
woman, the way they think, what tickles them, what makes them happy,
simple, you will not have problems with them. Men that live very long
understand that principle. I intend to live long.

What then is a woman's priority?

What is a woman's priority? A woman's priority is attention, love, but
a man looks at security, a man looks at, 'I want to protect my family;
I want to make sure I feed them.' If you don't have money but tell a
woman 'I love you' ten million times, I'm talking of in a marriage
now, and the woman sees prospect, the woman sees a hardworking man,
she's okay. Give a woman what she wants, she's okay!

How were you able to understand this early in life?

Who told you it was early. It wasn't early in life o, till now I still
never understand finish. I'm telling you. You must understand the
woman's good day and the woman's bad day. Don't ask for too much and
don't expect too much. Most importantly, just make sure you are happy
at all times. If you are happy then it rubs off on your home.

In one of your interviews you said you intend having seven children.
When are you looking at adding three more?

Ask my wife o, na she get that matter.

But are you really serious about having seven children?

I do not mind at all. Maybe not now, maybe much later but I love kids.
My dad had 11, my mom had five. So, ours was a large family. So, it's
not because we were not many, that's why I want to have a large
family, no. I just love kids. I want to have a big family like seven.
But not now, when my wife is more rested and the kids are grown more
and also when I have more money, so I can give them all the best. I
love kids. Definitely, we'll have more.

What's fatherhood like?

Oh, it's awesome. It's one of the best things in life. It's a good
experience. I feel blessed, excited. Especially when they are growing
up, you see them learn different things, want to say different things,
you guys walk together, they tell you things, sometimes they correct
you when you speak English.

Why is it that most stars don't wear their wedding rings, like you are
not wearing yours right now?

I honestly don't know why. Sometimes, it's because of the fear of
getting it missing. When we are on set and you are not playing a
married role, you'll need to take it out. And sometimes it just might
get missing.

When last did you put on your ring?

When last did I stop shooting?

And it's not an issue, is it?

No, she kept it. She's with it. Isn't it better she keeps it than for
it to get lost?

Why is that you don't attend events with your wife?

The kids, now that the kids are growing, very soon we'll be going out
together. It's pretty much because of the kids. She needs to stay home
to take care of them, but she will be coming out more very soon.

Woman beaten to death in India for allowing daughter to wear jeans

In a very conservative town in India, a mother has been killed for
permitting her daughter to wear jeans.

55-year-old Kamlesh Dubey was dragged out of her home and beaten to
death by a mob after an argument with her neighbour who objected to
daughter Gunjan wearing jeans instead of traditional sari.

The argument escalated and even Gunjan, 20, and her father Netrapal
were wounded in the fight that broke out in the city of Aligarh in
Uttar Pradesh, the IBI Times reports.

Senior superintendent of police in Aligarh, Amit Pathak told The Times
that: "The girl's neighbour would constantly pass comments on the way
the girl dressed."

"On this occasion she was in jeans and the woman, as usual, started
passing comments. A fight ensued which grew ugly when the neighbour
got other men to support her."

According to reports, Police superintendent Dayanand Mishra has said
that a manhunt is now on to track down the other people involved in
Dubey's death.
The Huffington Post reports:

The neighbour, named only as Phulwati, and her aide Ravindra Singh
have been arrested, India Today reports.

Netrapal said: "My daughter is an undergraduate student and she feels
comfortable in jeans. Other girls of her college also wear jeans.

"But Phulwati asked me to prevent her wearing jeans. She said her own
sons stare at her because of her jeans. She also told me that other
people in the area would start Eve-teasing my daughter if I didn't
stop her."

Eve-teasing is a euphemism for sexual molestation in India.

I Got Pregnant At 17 —Actress, Clarion Chukwura

Nollywood actress, Clarion Chukwura in a recent interview shares her
acting and growing up experiences. I lost my father when I was 11
years and one week old; it was only my mother that I can say reacted
when I started acting. But she was never against my acting.
I actually began acting in the university community. My mother spoke
with Bayo Oduleye (then a lecturer at the University of Ibadan.)

She also spoke with Yomi Shohunde. My mother, being an educated woman,
did not have problem when I began acting, though she thought I would
study law.
The fact that I became a star early did not let me have the problem my
pals were having. I became a star at 15. When I got pregnant, there
was a crack between me and my mother – which any mother would react
to.
At that time, I was 17, and an undergraduate. She felt it was her
fault, having lost her husband, she had the responsibility to look
after us so that she would not lose any of us.
I started acting (stage and television) in 1979, when I was 15 years,
and I joined the Nigerian film industry in 1982 with Ola Balogun's
Money Power. But if you want to talk about home video, I joined the
home video industry in 1994. I was the lead female character in the
first attempt at home video production in Nigeria by Jimi Odumosu,
Fiery Force (1986).

Pipeline Explodes In Ibadan

A pipeline exploded a few minutes ago at the Apete area of Ibadan, Oyo State, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said. The agency said it had implored the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation to "immediately shut down supplies so as to suffocate supplies to curb the intensity of the fire." More details later

Head for the #masjid, for #prayer in congregation & lots of #reward!

Narrated Abu Huraira, Allah's Messenger (sallAllahu ályhi wasallam) said,•► "The reward of the prayer offered by a person in congregation is *twenty five* times greater than that of the prayer offered in one's house or in the market (alone). And this is because if he performs ablution and does it perfectly and then proceeds to the mosque with the sole intention of praying, then for every step he takes towards the mosque, he is upgraded one degree in reward and his one sin is taken off (crossed out) from his accounts (of deeds). When he offers his prayer, the angels keep on asking Allah's Blessings and Allah's forgiveness for him as long as he is (staying) at his Musalla. They say, 'O Allah! Bestow Your blessings upon him, be Merciful and kind to him.' And one is regarded in prayer as long as one is waiting for the prayer." [#Bukhari :: Book 1 :: Volume 11 :: Hadith 620]

Arsenal winger marries childhood sweetheart in Italian castle

THEO Walcott married his childhood sweetheart yesterday at a castle in Florence.

Several Arsenal team-mates saw him tie the knot with stunning Melanie
Slade in the capital of the Italian region of Tuscany.

They included Kieran Gibbs, Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey and Thomas
Vermaelen, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain flying in on easyJet.

England winger Theo, 24, and Mel, 23, requested NO gifts from guests
at the fairytale ceremony at Castello Di Vincigliata.

They asked instead for donations to the Willow Foundation, set up by
Arsenal legend Bob Wilson to help seriously ill 16 to 40-year-olds,
and Macmillan Cancer Support after Melanie's sister Sarah was
diagnosed with kidney cancer at 16.

Fairytale ... castle in Tuscany where couple married See photo above

Theo and Melanie are seen as one of football's most solid couples.

Even on his Las Vegas stag do, he chose to get an early night.

The pair met in 2004 at WestQuay shopping centre in Southampton, where
his career began.

A friend said: "They fell in love before all the fame, and that has
laid a strong foundation."

The wedding rights were sold to a magazine.

‘I know four men who have slept with my wife’

A young tailor, Mrs. Kehinde Babalola, has pleaded with the Agege
Customary Court to dissolve her union with her husband, Mr. Morufu
Babalola.

The couple lived together for eight years and they have two children:
a girl and a boy.
Kehinde told the court that her husband was always beating her because
there was no more love in the marriage. She said she wanted the
custody of her children.
Babalola, a meat seller living at 14, Micheal Olufade Street, Meiran,
told the court that all the claims made by his wife were false;
stressing that he was ready to divorce her.

He said his wife fights with everybody in their neighbourhood,
including their landlord's children.
He said his intervention in one of such fights landed him in police
cell, where he spent three days.

He said his wife is adulterous and that he knows four men that she has
slept with.
He said he had caught her on four occasions with those men but because
of the love he had for her, he overlooked all her unfaithfulness.

He said even after her wife's relatives came to beg on her behalf
because of her behaviour, she still didn't change and it got to an
extent that people in the neighbourhood call her 'Animashaun,' meaning
a free giver.

He said, "My wife is mentally deranged. I took her to Aro Psychiatric
Hospital in Abeokuta, where the doctor told me that she had a mental
problem.

"Although it happened in 2009, she still exhibits her madness
sometimes, like the time she came to dump my last child on the floor
in my yard close to the bush around 11 pm."

He added that she was travelling to Ilorin with the children when she
suddenly got down from the bus, after telling the driver that she
wanted to pee, but she entered the bush and never came back until a
week later when she was found in Ijebu Ishara.

But the wife denied what her husband told the court.

She said when she had her first pregnancy; her sister took her to a
church where they told her that her stay in Babalola's house would not
yield anything but sadness and a terrible illness that would affect
her for a very long time.

She said it was her husband who sent her to Ilorin when a cold breeze
blew her and she became unconscious.

She said her husband would always sleep at home to monitor her
movements when his mates were selling their meat at the market.

"I sell yam on the street and my husband sees all my customers as my
concubines. He would beat me every time with the cane he uses on
cows," she said.
Kehinde said she was perfectly okay before she married her husband but
became ill after he got to his house.

She said she decided to take custody of her children when she heard a
message from a church that her husband's family never wanted him to
marry a wife not to talk of children.
The court president, Mr. Emmanuel Sokunle, told the husband that he
should take the children away from his step mother and bring them to
court on the next adjourned date.
He said it was a wrong and dangerous thing to take his children to his
step mother.

He later adjourned the case till June 17, 2013.

I was flogged for dating my brother’s friend – Omawunmi

Here is a recent interview popular songstress, Omawumi Megbele,
granted to Punch's Ademola Olonilua

Why it took me so long to launch my album

I just wanted to take out time and make good music. There are some
people who do yearly albums, I try to do like two or three years.
There are people whom I emulate. I feel that as music is a craft, you
must try to make sure you put out good materials that can stand the
test of time. It is not something that can be relevant for only two
months or a year. You want something that is good.

My Lasso of Truth album

I'm very happy; I have got a lot of positive feedback. The sale in the
first week was great. They made about 500,000 copies and it is almost
sold out. The sales did very well because the demand is high. I did
not even know that the demand was this high, even outside Nigeria, We
have been working out platforms where we can sell the album. People
outside the country ask whoever is travelling abroad to buy the CD in
bulk for them. The demand is that high.

If not music, I would have loved to be a teacher

I might be fun to be with, but I'm not a comedian. My mother wanted me
to practice law, but I wanted to teach. I have always wanted to teach,
I would have been a teacher. I don't know why I have the capacity to
get people to listen to me. Right now, I'm part of an organisation
that mentors young girls. You know when you sit with young girls and
you are advising them, if it is someone else advising them, deep down
they might not listen and think the person is spoiling their fun. But
I come across as somebody who has been there, done that and got the
T-shirt. So they listen. I think it would have been a beautiful
challenge for me to be a teacher. I'm sure I would have been worried
about the pay but it would have been flexible enough for me to have a
family as well as enjoy what I'm doing if I was not into music.

My early days

I had many experiences but I'd like not to embarrass myself. I was
very mischievous as a kid. I used to get into a lot of trouble. I had
a lot of older ones, so they used to deal with me a lot. They would
say, 'Omawumi don commit again'. I was the sort of person that would
steal my elder sister's bra and put socks inside; that was when I was
bare-chested. The sad thing is that when the thing now came out, it
just came out at once. I did the usual things that children do. I
can't say most of it in print. If my older ones should read it, they
would discover some things I did back then. I was pretty much a normal
kid. I used to play a lot but my parents made us understand the value
of education.

Year 2013 so far

I have got four endorsements this year. It has been fantastic. The
thing about it is that I have been working towards things like this
for a while. The way my work is, I have a healthy fan base. I have the
kind of music I make and the kind of people who like it and it appeals
to. When it comes to endorsements, I'm really grateful to God. It is a
process, if you work and you put out good material and you are
relatable, it's a good thing. The fact that I can market so many
products proves I'm a true Nigerian. Without blowing my horn and in
trying to be as modest as I can, I am educated. Most parents want
their children to be educated and even if they want to pursue their
dreams, they use me as an example. I pursued my dream but at the end
of the day, I got the basic education. Is she street wise? They use me
as an example. Even though you are educated, it doesn't mean you
should be dumb. There are some parts of my life I feel people make
comments, like 'she is a single mother'; it is not supposed to be
celebrated. The plus side of it is that I have a beautiful daughter. I
figured that it is better for me to keep a life that God has given me
as opposed to killing. That it didn't work the way it should work or
that I am not married, it is still a process, I am still a human
being. That is also relatable. It is not like they say that when you
get to a stage and you don't get someone to marry you, you go and get
pregnant. Some of my friends, when they look at me and say they want
to be like me or that they don't have time for men, I tell them no.
Circumstances and life brought it upon me, I would not regret one day
of it. I am happy with my daughter, I am happy about the family that
she has and the one I have. Nonetheless, it is not something someone
should come out and say this is the way to go.

Criticism

I'll tell you the truth, I'm indifferent. I have developed a thick
skin. I would not say that from the outset it never affected me. But
it didn't mean I put my hand under my cheek and started brooding. I
was just worried why this sort of thing happened. I am a solutions
kind of person and so I started looking for solutions. I found out
that there was no solution. Whether you like it or not, people must
talk about you. The more mysterious you are, the more stories would be
woven around you. I figured that you win some and lose some, you
cannot have it all. The day you are the focus of the press, you just
say by God's grace, this too shall pass. I don't like it when people
form an opinion about me out of negative publicity, especially when it
is not true and it affects my career. That is the part I don't like
because I believe everybody puts a lot of hard work into their music.
That's why I always tell people, I'm not an angel. That is why I
encourage people to just enjoy the music. It is the music I am giving
you, not my personal life, not who I am.

My first crush and boyfriend

I can remember him. I think I 'died' for him so much I cannot remember
how he toasted me. You know when you like a boy so much and you try to
catch his attention. He was my elder brother's very good friend and it
was like a taboo to have anything to do with your elder brother's
friend. The elder brother would beat both the friend and the sister.
That was the sort of position I was in. I still collected the beatings
because when you are blinded with love, you would stick with the boy
no matter what. Eventually, we were so in love for a long time.

Photos : Wizkid's manager confirms Wizkid's accident

Wizkid, was indeed involved in  an accident in the early hours of
today - though he wasn't hurt, his newly acquired porsche was badly
damaged! The accident was caused by a bust tyre. Wizkid, who wasn't
the one driving, was quickly taken away in another car. His bodyguard
stayed behind to get the vehicle towed.
Wizkid's manager, Godwin Tom, in an exclusive telephone chat with
Flytimetv confirmed the incident saying "Yes..." Tom brusquely said
and hung up...
Also confirming the incident, Wizkid tweeted "Thankful" about 7 hours
ago, almost immmediately after the incident.
How the accident happened: An eyewitness' account...

"At 3:30Am me and my friends were about to leave the Nokia Lumia beat
party at the Oriental hotel . As we waited for a cab it was raining
all of a sudden we heard a loud noise behind us. We turn to check what

and wanting to tumble …first we had the shocking/ trilling feeling we
got to actually experience such a magnificent incident… As we rush

realized it was star boyz new porsche car with the plates 'W' as we
approached further the MAN OF STEEL (star boy) walks out not only
saving him self but along with the girls with him lol, without any
scratch or injuries.."

"Anybody that insults me on social media, I will insult back" Eniola Badmus blasts haters again...

Eniola Badmus, gbogbo bigs geh should get over it already naaaa!
I realize that my country people underrate you. Because you are big
they make you feel wanted in the society. They feel that when you are
big, you should be isolated.

Really …?
Yes, that's true. I see it from the two sides. This is life. We can't
all be equal. It's just like having a dwarf and a tall person. It's
not their fault that they are like that. But then, people tend to
underrate just to make you feel somehow or to intimidate you. That's
why I say, I don't see intimidation. If anyone should come out and say
'Eniola is big! She is that!' For goodness sake, I like it like that.
I'm okay. Besides, my body shape is giving me money and I'm good. I'm
living well. I'm healthy. I'm sure I'm healthier than some slim
people. All of us can't be slim. People should stop this body-shaming
pinging. It's not nice.

Even if you want to advise someone that it's not nice, there is a way
you can say it not by insulting people because you feel you can just
write or talk anyhow on social media. No! Anybody that insults me on
social media, I will insult back. Yes, because it doesn't make one
feel good. In foreign countries, intimidation causes some people to
commit suicide. When you are being intimidated, that's when depression
comes up. After depression, you go and die. Me, die because of what?
No oh! This life is too sweet to die, because of words of some people.
I'm okay. If anyone doesn't like me, they should keep a distance.

The people that like me will forever be around me. I remember that I
wrote, why use panadol for my headache? Every blog carried it that I
said I know my stature is a big problem to some. But it's the truth.
Among all of you that are insulting me that Eniola is too big I'm sure
your mum is bigger than me. So why not concentrate on the one you
have? I know one of your friends is bigger than me, or one of your
sisters. Most of the fat babes, the plus size people who watch me want
to emulate me because I'm a celebrity. Whatever she does let's do it.
You get it? I know I'm a role model to some people. If I want to shed
weight.

Are you involved in an NGO?

I want to start one that has to do with Asthma. I found out that
people battling with Asthma are not well taken care of. I want to use
this Non governmental Organisation (NGO) to contribute my quota and
give back to society.

What is marriage to you?

Obviously, marriage means union, togetherness of two people. Why is
everybody asking me when I'll get married? I will get married in due
time. The due time might be tomorrow. But I'm not a loud person when
it comes to things like that. I don't broadcast things like that. Or
is it because I am big so you think I can't get married? Whoever says
that is foul because I have best man in this world right now. So what
are you saying? Pleases I neither want to talk about my man nor
disclose his identity.

In a recent interview with a national newspaper, Eniola Badmus had
this to say (I sense anger in her voice, lol)...

"I realize that my country people underrate you. Because you are big
they make you feel wanted in the society. They feel that when you are

intimidate you. That's why I say, I don't see intimidation.
If anyone should come out and say 'Eniola is big! She is that!' For
goodness sake, I like it like that (Yelz ke). I'm okay. Besides, my
body shape is giving me money and I'm good. I'm living well. I'm
healthy (Go baby) I'm sure I'm healthier than some slim people. All of
us can't be slim. People should stop this body-shaming pinging. It's
not nice....

Even if you want to advise someone that it's not nice, there is a way
you can say it not by insulting people because you feel you can just
write or talk anyhow on social media. No! Anybody that insults me on
social media, I will insult back. (Ghen, ghen) Yes, because it doesn't
make one feel good. In foreign countries, intimidation causes some
people to commit suicide. When you are being intimidated, that's when
depression comes up. After depression, you go and die. Me, die because
of what? No oh! This life is too sweet to die, because of words of
some people. I'm okay. If anyone doesn't like me, they should keep a
distance.

The people that like me will forever be around me. I remember that I
wrote, why use panadol for my headache? Every blog (Yes I did, smiles)
carried it that I said I know my stature is a big problem to some. But
it's the truth. Among all of you that are insulting me that Eniola is
too big I'm sure your mum is bigger than me (lwkmd, she's angry) So
why not concentrate on the one you have? I know one of your friends is
bigger than me, or one of your sisters. Most of the fat babes, the
plus size people who watch me want to emulate me because I'm a
celebrity.

Whatever she does let's do it. You get it? I know I'm a role model to
some people. If I want to shed weight."

Gbam, hope you have all heard? Free the babe o, lolz...

Fashola, Ribadu Mourn Abibatu Mogaji’s Death

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) described as a great national and personal loss the death of  Alhaja Abibatu  Mogaji, the pioneer Iyaloja /President General of the Market men and Women and mother of  the former Lagos State Governor , Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  In a condolence statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello,  Fashola said the mother of his  predecessor in office and National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) throughout her life time was a forthright defender of the people and their right to economic empowerment adding that this trait has been imbibed by anyone, who has had the opportunity or privilege to fall within the ambit of her influence. According to the Governor, this peculiar trait is evident in the personality of her illustrious son, Tinubu, a leader with the love of the people at heart.   Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji was a frontliner in the commercial development of Lagos State, particularly Lagos Island, which was formerly dominated by the Lebanese and Greek Merchants. He said: “She was one of the pioneer traders, who ventured into the capital intensive and risky business venture of importation of consumer goods, thereby breaking the monopoly previously enjoyed by the foreign tradesmen and her business acumen attracted the attention of Multi-National Enterprises operating in Nigeria then, who had no option but to register her as a business partner and distributor of their consumer goods in Nigeria.” Describing the late Iyaloja-General as a great matriarch, the Governor said Alhaja Mogaji did not limit her business and social networking to the confines of Lagos State alone, she was always seeking for the welfare of market men and women as well as ways of opening up more business opportunities for them. “This attribute of hers must have informed the unanimous decision of all commercial traders regardless of ethnic, religious or political persuasion to select her as the pioneer Iyaloja/President-General of Nigerian Market Men and  Women. A position she has handled with utmost responsibility and diligence, he said. Governor Fashola said Alhaja Mogaji would be sorely missed by noting that he would personally miss the motherly guidance and affectionate of the deported matriarch of the Mogaji Family. According to him, this becomes more so at this time when the nation needs more men and women in the mould of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji who would show leadership by using their gifts and talents to contribute to the development of Lagos. Praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed, Governor Fashola expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the First Lady of Lagos State, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola and his family, to the ACN National Leader, the entire Tinubu Family and the people of Lagos for the great loss.  Similarly, former boss of the Economic and Financia Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former ACN Presidential Candidate, Malam Nuhu Ribadu said: “The death of mother of ACN National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhajat Abibatu Mogaji, is the drawing a curtain unto an era of courageous women movement that characterised independence struggle and beyond, in Nigeria.   “I am sorrowed and shocked over the death of this renowned women leader, who I believe is the last of exemplary amazons.  “Alhaja Mogaji's doggedness, resilience and selfless community service were virtues that would remain indelible in the face of Nigeria’s history and non-state movements in black Africa in general. I hail her entrepreneurship acumen and how she carried many budding entrepreneurs under her wings into building their own financial empires. “Her death is not only a loss to her immediate family or the people of Lagos state. Personally, I considered her as a mother-figure and source of inspiration who remained a devout Muslim and committed to improving lives of others up to the time she breathed her last. She was a true nationalist and a bridge builder.   “ We will miss her a lot. “I pray for the repose of Mama's soul and extend my profound condolence to the immediate family, the government and people of Lagos state and Nigerian market women and the entire Nigerians over this irreparable lose.”
