Tottenham on brink of selling Bale to Real Madrid for incredible record fee of £94m

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was locked in negotiations on Wednesday night to finalise Gareth Bale’s world record £94million transfer to Real Madrid.
Levy spent the day haggling over the sale of the Wales star, making sure his club received as much money as possible for their 24-year-old talisman.
Madrid chiefs have grown frustrated at Levy’s hardball approach, and his tough stance was maintained on Tuesday during another day of high-level negotiations.

Levy is adamant Fabio Coentrao’s pending switch to White Hart Lane should remain separate from Bale’s transfer, while Real Madrid want to use the left back as a makeweight in the deal.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s Europa League qualifier here against Dinamo Tbilisi, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas insisted a deal for Bale was not complete.
But Real chiefs are confident the transfer, which will eclipse Madrid’s £80m world record capture of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United, will go through before the September 2 deadline.
All the indications point to the forward’s imminent exit. Having already spent close to £60million on Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue, Levy, director of football Franco Baldini and Villas-Boas continue to strengthen Spurs’ squad.
Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian is almost certain to join in a £30m deal, and the club were in advanced talks with Roma to land Argentinian forward Erik Lamela, another deal that could be worth around £30m.

Given UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, spending what could be around £120m, without selling prized asset Bale, is highly unlikely.
When asked directly whether the deal to take Bale to Madrid was complete, Villas-Boas replied: ‘I can’t tell you anything about that. That is not true.’
But when pressed, the Portuguese manager’s stance appeared to soften.
‘Ideally we want to keep everyone to make us stronger — that is the objective of the club. But we are dragging ourselves into the last weeks of transfer activity and it can become very, very frantic. We will continue to do some activity in the market, both ways.’
Losing Bale would be a bitter blow to Spurs’ campaign but after their mega-spending spree, Villas-Boas insists his side — even without the Welsh flyer — will be stronger than last season.

The ex-Porto coach added: ‘On the players that we have signed, it shows we have tremendous ambition.
‘We look forward to being stronger than the year before, and I firmly believe we can be stronger. What we are doing at the moment shows our intentions.
‘We are not only trimming the squad but adding tremendous talent. I think we can become very, very strong in relation to what we were last season.
‘It depends on the deals we are able to complete before the market finishes — and it hasn’t finished yet for us.’

Villas-Boas stopped short of claiming his side could compete for the Barclays Premier League this season, adding: ‘I don’t agree that we can be title contenders this season because everything is happening, everything is changing.
‘We have to create a team at the moment from all these new players that we have bought. We haven’t had lots of time to work with them but I believe that in the future, e can definitely achieve it.
‘There are very strong sides in England — there is massive investment. In my opinion it is the best league in the world and continues to attract the best players.
‘What we are building is a very, very strong side for the future, alongside massive investment in the structures of the club. So that (title) dream can hopefully happen in a couple of years.’

Aviator glasses? Check. Baseball cap backwards? Check. Madrid star? To be continued: How Bale has morphed into Real's Ronaldo ahead of dream £85m move

As Gareth Bale closes in on a switch to Real Madrid to join some of the world's best in La Liga, he is beginning to look almost identical to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Tottenham winger, 24, is set to sign for Madrid for a world-record fee of £85million and will most likely play on the opposite wing to the club's No 7
But the pair are looking increasingly similar as they draw ever closer to being brought together in Spain, with Bale attempting to mirror Ronaldo's persona with aviators and a backwards baseball cap.

Bale's move should be completed before the transfer window closes on September 2, with Carlo Ancelotti and Madrid seemingly preparing for his arrival, leaving the No 11 shirt vacant.
Andre Villas Boas meanwhile has also made plans for life without Bale. Spurs are nearing a £60m double swoop for Anzhi Makhachkala attacking midfielder Willian and Roma forward Erik Lamela.
Bale will be a big miss at Tottenham but a partnership with Ronaldo would be sure to excite the fans at the Bernabeu.
And from the look of our pictures, the pair may also be exchanging some fashion tips along the way!

2 Students Sentenced To 3 Months In Prison For Stealing An iPhone & Blackberry

image
(NAN ) – An Abuja Magistrates’ Court in Life-Camp on Wednesday sentenced Paul Emmanuel and Mustapha Abubakar to three months in prison for stealing an iPhone and Blackberry cell-phones valued at N265,000.
Emmanuel, 18, and Abubakar, 23, claimed they are students who reside in Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja. The magistrate, Alhaji Abdulateef Abolaji, sentenced them after they pleaded guilty to the two counts of joint act and theft.
Abolaji, however, gave them an option to pay a fine of N3,000 each.“They confessed to stealing the cell phones and have not given sufficient cause why they should not be convicted.“They have to serve the jail term or pay the fine to serve as a deterrence to others like them,’’ he said.
Abolaji warned the convicts to desist from a life of crime, saying that the court would not be lenient with them if they appeared again for any criminal offence.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, told the court that the convicts stole the cell-phones, belonging to Alhaji Musa Abdulrahim of Maitama, Abuja on Aug. 15.
He said that the two convicts pretended to be assisting Abdulrahim, whose car fell into a ditch when they stole the phones.
The prosecutor said that the convicts were arrested by the police and they confessed to committing the crime upon interrogation.Idi said that the two phones were later recovered from them.

Goodluck Support Group Appeals To ASUU To Call Off Strike

asuu
Having remained adamant over the ongoing strike, and with the open threat to continue with its strike over the non-implementation of the agreement it arrived with the federal government in 2001, Nigerians at all quarters have continued to appeal to ASUU and the Federal government to apply the principle of effective dialogue in order to put an end to the protracted face-off.
Adding his words to the ongoing strike that has kept students at home for this long, the Director of Youth and Students Affairs of the Goodluck Support Group (GSG), Prince Eka Williams has appealed to ASUU to consider the effort of the Federal Government so far and call off its strike which he said was devastating and demoralising. Eka said that even though ASUU was fighting a just course, it must consider that the government of Jonathan has accepted to bear responsible of the burden transferred to his government from another administration. He appealed to the University body to also consider the plight of Nigerian students and call off the strike.
The Directorate of Youth and Students Affairs of the Goodluck Support Group (GSG),hereby appeals to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call-off its lingering strike action,in consideration of the teeming university students of Nigeria who are the greatest losers in the face-off.
We are not in doubt that ASUU’s strike action is altruistic and intended to improve the general quality of education in the country. But there is need for the union to reconsider its rigid stance, in view of the counterproductive effect it could have on the educational sector due to the gross distortions in the academic calendars of universities and its demoralizing effects on the students.
Although the FG-ASUU Agreement which is the crux of the current strike action was reached in 2001, prior to the advent of the incumbent administration, President Goodluck Jonathan has taken full responsibility in realization that government is a continuum
This informed his setting-up of the Gabriel Suswan-led Committee for the needs assessment of ASUU. The committee is reputed to be the most powerful FG committee ever set-up in the country to look into the issue of the union, comprised of top government functionaries and institutions. There is no doubt that the committee is poised to come up with recommendations that will be beneficial to both parties involved in the dispute.
Therefore, we urge ASUU to apply one of the cardinal principles of negotiation, which is simply “give and take” in order to arrive at a reasonable compromise that would move the nation’s educational sector forward.

Nigerians And MTN; A Parable For The ‘Mumudous’ By Adekoya Boladale

mtn
On 16th August 2013, over sixty million Nigerians were literally cut off from civilization, without prior notice or warning. Mobile Telecom Network (MTN) subscribers woke up to discover they were alone in this cold and lonely world. However that wasn’t the only offence; MTN did not deem it fit to tender any form of apology to its subscribers not until 12hours into the oblivion with a very short message less than twenty words. It is important to state that the numeric figure of these subscribers outnumbers the population of South Africa; three times that of Ghana, and twenty percent of the population of the United States (US).
MTN a South African mobile telecom company came into Nigeria at a time when the country needed a stable and consistent mobile brand. It was dubbed the ‘Telecommunication Saviour’ then selling its SIM at $400 and top up cards at 1,500 naira minimum. The telecom company enjoyed the monopoly to such an extent that it found the exploitation in Nigeria so rewarding and quickly moved its headquarters from South Africa to Nigeria. For quite some time, Nigerians were at the mercy of this sole mobile telecom service provider added with a lot of unreasonable terms and conditions until the likes of Glo, Zain, Visafone, Etisalat among others came in and made the market competitive. Surprisingly, despite the various juicy packages offered by these other companies, Nigerians saw no need to make a switch. The excuse then was logical and reasonable at least one out of the lots; ‘I can’t change my number; this is the line everybody knows me with’. In a bid to address this market inequality and create a level playing ground the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) moved in.
After long years of rigmarole, the NCC introduced the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) on April 22nd 2013, a service which enables subscribers to switch network providers while still retaining their number all at no cost. It is however alarming that with a service such as this; some Nigerians still find it hard to make a proper choice.
The story above can only be likened to our current political and leadership problem. Our nation dilemmatic state is our own doing. MTN here represents the crop of emergency leaders that emerge at a time when we desperately desire democratic rule, we threw caution to the wind and gave power to rogues and criminals disguise as gents and saints. Yes they came to us with the best of roadmaps on papers but deep in their heart they nurse a villainous plan greater than that of Lucifer, but did we ever take time to ask them the right questions other than dance around them with drums and ‘bata’?
The now corruption-ridden National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) which in the past causes fear, panic and bring jittering to the soul of public office holders as become pawn in the hands of politicians and so bastardised that it’s now been paid to go on live television defending absurdity and felony (felony in this context means a crime against education), yet these are our youths and acclaimed future of our great country.
Over the years we have been milked, skinned, humiliated, deceived, tortured and played but any time better individuals who neither posess fat bank account nor enjoy the endorsement of the ‘powerful’ comes forth to take charge of our nation’s affair we take turn to label such person with volumes of unprintable names.
Nigerians in their usual lackadaisical attitude feel there is no need for a change or rather as they put it ‘Let’s play with the devil we know’. It is only a sign of gross foolishness for one to feel comfortable with darkness when there is a possibility of light in the next room; in fact it contradicts neuroplasticity- the natural ability to seek for change in discomfort fused in the human brain. We have come to find faith only in God and make no move to ensure we get the change our hearts long for.
In some instances I have had to listen to some Nigerians in defense of the presidency. The arguments always start with phrase such as this; ‘…after all what did he do? Is he the one that created the problems?’ In most cases I have been forced to point out to them few out of the many sins of Goodluck Jonathan; the removal of subsidy, failed power supply (not generation), skyrocketing unemployment rate, perpetual insecurity and unimaginable geometric growth in corruption.
Yes, President Goodluck Jonathan in all righteousness never created Nigeria’s problems, but in 2011 when we were clamouring for a president I don’t remember we asking for a clueless one who lacks knowledge on how to solve these long age ailments. We never asked for a siddon look who knows nothing other than to sign Cheques and roll out pardons to criminals. Defense like this continues to show how gullible we are in a nation so blessed yet so poor.
A friend on Twitter retweeted a post from one of his followers in Somalia who has been in the war torn country for three days, this fella acknowledged the woeful sights and dilapidated nature of the country but he shocked me when he said he was yet to experience a second of power outage, this is in a country that has been in perpetual state of war for so long.
Nigerians won’t learn just as the MTN subscriber’s won’t port. The people of Abia state whose Governor has failed to cleanse the potential world class industrial area off the ridiculous dirt trademark, would rather create crops of jobless praise singers and fire dancers who follows him around dancing and shouting to make ends meet than provide sound entrepreneur skills acquisition programme but deliver to them repainted and dusted projects as dividends of democracy won’t see the need for change. The people of Akwa-Ibom state whose Governor continue to use state resources to acquire fleets of bulletproof and military grade luxurious cars and jets at the expense of the masses while quoting ghost executed projects won’t see the need for change. The people of Ogun state whose megalomaniac Governor continue to construct roads at a whooping sum of 1.3billion naira per kilometer while accumulating huge debts and loans that would require the 10th generation to make full repayment, fails to create employment but rather promote thuggery, won’t see the need for change.
We all would be living in a fool’s paradise if we continue to believe something good will come out of these darkness, we are no different from the MTN die-hard Nigerian subscribers who get defrauded, short changed, exploited but looks at their reception-less network service bar on their phone smile, look up and say “I just love MTN”

Three fake security operatives were arrested in Abeokuta, yesterday, after attempting to kidnap former Miss Nigeria, Feyi Sodipo. The suspects who were two men and a woman were said to have claimed to be security operatives working for the organisers of Miss Nigeria beauty pageant.
Vanguard gathered that the suspects who had been arrested by policemen attached to the governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta reportedly took ex-Miss Nigeria in their car from Lagos to Abeokuta.
It was further gathered that the suspects, who rode in a Honda Shuttle car with number plate LAGOS, KA 35 EKY were said to have ordered the former beauty queen to enter their car from Lagos to Abeokuta to retrieve her car gift, Hyundai with number plate LAGOS GGE 354 AJ where she parked it.
Attempt by the suspects to take the car away from the Arcade ground of the Ogun State secretariat complex in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, however, met stiff resistance as the mother of the ex-beauty queen raised the alarm that attracted people to the scene.
The suspects who reportedly claimed to be police officers, however, failed to identify themselves when security operatives attached to the office of the state governor intervened.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s security attaché with instruction from the command’s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, consequently arrested the suspects and took them to the Ibara Police Divisional headquarters in Abeokuta.
Speaking with newsmen over the development, former Miss Nigeria, said the people had been chasing her round the place, asking her to surrender the car gift she got from the Akwa Ibom State government.
Narrating her ordeal, Feyi said: “Organisers of the programme made many promises that they didn’t keep and now they want to collect the car given to me by Akwa Ibom State government.
“They want to collect this gift from me because Ogun State government has given me another car so I must surrender the one given to me by the Akwa Ibom State governmet.”
Feyi further told newsmen that there was no part of the contract she signed with the organisers that they will retrieve the car from her, stressing that the Hyundai car was registered in her name.
Feyi’s mother, Mrs. Mary Sodipo, told newsmen that she decided to raise alarm so that the suspects who had coerced her daughter to take them to where she was keeping the car would not harm her.
At press time, the three suspects were being detained at Ibara police station for onwards transfer to the command’s headquarters in Eleweran.
