Nails In The Wall

NAILS IN THE WALL Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence. (Most importantly the last sentence) There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the wall. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the wall. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the wall. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for eachday that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the wall. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the wall. The wall will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. Once you hurt your loved ones It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that friends are very rare jewels indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed; They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us. YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM HONOURED! Now share this to every friend you have!! And to your family (they need to know that you love them too) Please forgive me if I have ever left a hole in your life!!!

Nigerian Man to be Hanged For Drug Trafficking in Malaysia

A Nigerian man was sentenced to death by hanging by the High Court in Malaysia today after being found guilty of trafficking in 1124.10gms of methamphetamine at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang, two years ago. Anoliefo Peter Ndubuisi, 36, committed the offence at the airport Customs inspection counter at 4pm on July 30, 2011. Justice Noor Azian Shaari in her judgement, said Anoliefo's defence that he was not aware of the presence of the drugs inside the 13 bottles of hair cream he was asked to carry by a friend whom he knew for only two days, was not logical. Deputy public prosecutor Aida Mastura Mohamed Aman called 16 witnesses at the prosecution hearing while Counsel James George called only one witness during the defence's trial.

Michael Jackson court battle takes a bizarre turn as judge 'accepts evidence from late singer's GHOST... relayed via Lionel Richie's ex-wife'

Michael Jackson's court battle has taken a bizarre turn after the judge presiding over the dispute between the late singer's family and concert firm AEG has accepted evidence from a ghost. The new twist in the trial allegedly came as Randy Phillips, CEO of AEG Live, claimed the legendary star had insisted from beyond the grave that his death was an accident, thus clearing Dr Conrad Murray, who has been jailed for delivering a fatal overdose of a sedative in 2009. Speaking to members of the jury at the Los Angeles County Superior Court , Mr Phillips is said to have claimed the supernatural encounter was delivered via his friend Brenda Richie, the ex-wife of musician Lionel Richie. The Sun quotes him as saying in court: 'Brenda called me to tell me that she was in communications with Michael, either through a medium or directly. She said Michael told her it wasn’t Dr Murray’s fault - that he had accidentally killed himself.' Judge Yvette Palazuelos is said to have 'let the testimony stand', as Mr Phillips responded to questioning about an email he sent back in August 2009. It said: 'I think I know what MJ died of and this would exonerate Conrad.' A lawyer representing the Jackson family reportedly objected to the evidence, claiming it was 'triple hearsay', as the conversation was relayed to Branda Richie through the assistance of a medium. But the judge let the evidence stand nonetheless. Jackson was close to both Lionel and Brenda throughout his life, and was godfather to their adopted daughter, Nicole Richie, 31. Earlier this week, it was claimed the late singer was 'desperately broke' before his ill-fated This Is It comeback tour. Phillips made the claims as he testified for a sixth day at the singer's wrongful death trial in a Los Angeles on Wednesday. He told of an emotional Halloween meeting with the Prince of Pop at a hotel where the singer claimed 'they were living like vagabonds.' He added: 'He actually broke down and I broke down. We both broke down. He got emotional. He teared up about his family and having a good life with them and a place to live and a residence they could call their own. 'I felt incredibly bad that this incredible star was at the point where he just couldn’t buy a house with all this money he made It just didn’t make sense.' He also told AEG attorney Marvin Putnam, it was the 'first time Michael really told me why he wanted to go back to work.' The Thriller favourite’s mother Katherine and three children are suing the concert promoter, alleging it negligently hired, retained or supervised Dr. Conrad Murray, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter over the singer’s 2009 death. Meanwhile he also told jurors he knew the star as a sophisticated, forceful businessman and not the drugged-up performer who's been described throughout an ongoing civil trial filed over the singer's untimely death. Phillips said based on meetings he had with Jackson in 2008 and early 2009, he found Jackson to be a 'sophisticated man who had control of his life.' The portrait of Jackson that's been presented to the jury during the seven-week trial has been inaccurate, Phillips said. Jackson was described by both sides in opening statements as struggling with prescription drug addiction throughout his life. Phillips said he disagreed with the descriptions of Jackson 'because he's been presented as drug-addled 5-year-old. That was not the man I dealt with. The man I dealt with was forceful. Kind, but determined. He was a force.' Jurors have been presented with conflicting accounts of Jackson, even from Philips. They will have to weigh the different portrayals when they decide who is liable for the singer's June 2009 death. Katherine Jackson's lawyers contend AEG failed to properly investigate the doctor convicted of causing her son's death, pushing her son too hard to perform and missed warning signs of his health. AEG, however, contends Michael Jackson hid his addiction to the powerful anesthetic propofol and that the company could not have foreseen that the singer's doctor was giving him the drug as a sleep aid. Millions and possibly billions of dollars are at stake in the negligent hiring trial. Phillips said he didn't see signs that Jackson was struggling with prescription drugs when he met with the entertainer to discuss options for his This Is It comeback concerts scheduled for London's O2 Arena in 2009. Phillips has also told jurors that Michael Jackson never told him he was having trouble sleeping. The executive has described the superstar as difficult to work with, often changing managers and ideas about what he wanted creatively. In testimony later on Wednesday, he described having to coax Jackson to a London press conference in March 2009 to announce his concerts. The singer was a couple of hours late, appeared hung over and was concerned no one would want to see him perform. 'He is an emotionally paralyzed mess riddled with self-loathing and doubt now that it is show time,' Phillips wrote to his boss that day. He testified that he just wanted to get through the event and forget it ever happened. The six-man, six-woman jury has been shown numerous emails throughout the trial in which high-level tour workers expressed concerns about the singer's health, his weight, and whether he was ready for the shows. Many of the concerns were voiced by tour director Kenny Ortega, who Phillips at one point told not to attempt to serve as an amateur doctor or psychiatrist. Phillips acknowledged earlier this week that statements he wrote to Ortega about Michael Jackson's physician, Conrad Murray, were untrue. Among those statements were Phillips' assertions that AEG Live had checked out Murray, and that the deeply indebted physician didn't need the job. Murray was convicted in 2011 of involuntary manslaughter for giving Michael Jackson a lethal dose of propofol. Murray is not a defendant in the civil case, although AEG Live lawyers said early they intend to call the former cardiologist as a witness.

Britain's worst mother Benefit scrounger, 60, raised sons in life of crime by sending them abroad on multi-million pound heroin runs

A grandmother has been unmasked as an underworld matriarch who coached her two sons into building an international crime empire - while her family was shamelessly claiming £1,500-a-month in benefits. Christine Fitzgibbon, 60, schooled sons Jason and Ian as budding gangsters from their early teens, then lived off the proceeds of their global drug-dealing network. Secret recordings exposed how the grandmother-of-seven continued to keep a close eye on the violent pair, who regarded themselves as ‘untouchable’. One was told off for turning up at the family home in a brand-new Porsche, while she booked their flights to meet suppliers and even advised them on exchange rates so they weren’t ripped off by continental drug barons. Officers compared Christine to the domineering Violet Kray who brought up Ronnie and Reggie in East End of London. The tapes which finally brought the Fitzgibbon clan to justice also captured Jason, 40, boasting he was ‘ten times better’ at being a gangster than his 39-year-old brother and singing along to the Jessie J song ‘Price Tag’. Yesterday their mother was branded the company secretary of the feared ‘Fitzgibbon Plc’ crime family as the gang were jailed for a total of more than 44 years over a plot to flood the UK with drugs worth £64million imported from Turkey. She lived in an unremarkable detached house in Liverpool but enjoyed holidays at their luxurious €330,500 villa in Spain and had numerous overseas bank accounts. When police raided the house, they found another £180,000 hidden under the floor of one of the bedrooms, with more in a hollow table leg in the dining room. And yet Mrs Fitzgibbon and her husband were also claiming £1,500 a month in state handouts, including disability benefits. Detectives from the elite Serious Organised Crime Agency sneaked an electronic listening device into the family’s three bedroom house in Mossley Hill and secretly bugged Mrs Fitzgibbon as she boasted of her son’s crimes. They finally rounded up the family after a series of raids last year having uncovered a plot by Jason and Ian to flood the UK with drugs imported from Turkey. The boys’ father, William, now 65, began his criminal career when he was just 14 with burglaries and car thefts, and their mother ensured they would follow in his footsteps. As young teenagers she oversaw protection rackets they ran to extort money from local businesses, later moving on to shoplifting and car theft. They grew up to be feared hardmen setting up drug deals in Holland, Spain and Colombia, living in modest houses but driving flash cars. But when one turned up at the family house in a brand new Porsche, his mother snapped: ‘You’re bringing unwanted attention to yourself - don’t go driving fast cars.’ In 2000 Jason and Ian were convicted of conspiracy to supply heroin and were jailed for eight and seven years respectively. After their release they were arrested in Holland over a £1million heroin haul, but cleared over phone tap evidence, returning to the UK convinced they were ‘untouchable’, detectives say. Christine Fitzgibbon managed the entire network like a legitimate company secretary, according to police, booking multiple flights for each trip in a bid to throw detectives off their scent and even advising them on the latest exchange rates. In one family exchange bugged by police, she said to Jason ‘You’ve not done a day’s work in your life’, to which he replied: ‘You got us into this mum.’ In another, father-of-three Jason brags that he’s the more successful gangster, boasting: ‘Whatever he can do mum, I can do ten times better.’ He was also taped singing ‘It’s all about the money’ to the tune of Jessie J. When bisexual Jason was held in a police swoop over a £100,000 cash seizure, she was heard silencing Ian as he asked whether she thought his brother would ‘get away with it’. ‘It depends what they’ve hit him with, doesn’t it?’ she retorts, adding: ‘Just hope it wasn’t what I give him yesterday. It’s a good job I took that f****** thing out of the house, wasn’t it?’ The crime empire began to crumble in 2011 when officers from the Turkish police swooped on a drug deal and found 57kg of heroin worth £7million which was linked to the Fitzgibbons. Jason had already been jailed for a separate punishment beating of a car dealer. At Manchester Crown Court yesterday, their mother admitted money laundering and was jailed for two years. Father of three Ian admitted conspiracy to supply heroin and Ecstasy and money laundering and was jailed for 14 and a half years, while Jason admitted conspiracy to import heroin and money laundering and received a 16 year sentence. Enforcer Daniel Smith, 26, was given ten years for conspiracy while fellow gang member Neil Williams, 32, also of Liverpool, was jailed for 21 months after admitting money laundering. The case against Neil Harrison, 40, was adjourned and laundering charges against William Fitzgibbon were allowed to lie on file. Jailing Mrs Fitzgibbon, Judge Michael Henshell told her she was a ‘dominant figure’ in the criminal enterprise. ‘You knew precisely what you were involved in, you knew precisely where the money was coming from and you enjoyed the lifestyle that went along with it,’ he added. Afterwards Matt Burton, head of investigations at SOCA, said: ‘Christine was the matriarch of a crime family running a criminal business engaged in violence and intimidation. ‘She resolved internal disputes - in fact everything revolved around her. ‘The home was the hub for their enterprise - it was where the criminal enterprise was born and where they would conduct business.’

Adele leads list of honours for the showbiz world as she is awarded MBE

Singer Adele is appointed an MBE, crowning an astonishing few months that have seen her conquer the world. The 25-year-old’s honour for services to music comes months after she won an Oscar for her James Bond song Skyfall. Still only two albums into her career, the Tottenham-born singer has sold nearly seven million albums in the UK alone. Her astonishing achievements in terms of exports - with the best-selling album in the world for two successive years - are likely to have been a decisive factor in the award. Sports presenter Clare Balding, widely praised for her coverage of London’s Olympic and Paralympic Games, is appointed an OBE for services to broadcasting and journalism. Other OBEs go to writer Jackie Collins whose steamy works include The Bitch and The Stud, golfer Paul Lawrie, GQ editor Dylan Jones and author Kate Mosse. MBEs go to comedian Rob Brydon of Gavin and Stacey fame, singer and broadcaster Aled Jones, singer-songwriter PJ Harvey, and author Joanne Harris. Entrepreneur and former Dragon’s Den star Hilary Devey was ‘flabbergasted’ to receive a CBE for services to the transport industry and to charity. Restaurateur Jill Stein, the ex-wife of TV chef Rick Stein, is made an OBE. She runs a business in Padstow, Cornwall, with her former husband, who received the same honour ten years ago. Artist Grayson Perry, actress Claire Bloom and Thomas Heatherwick, designer of the Olympic Cauldron, also receive CBEs. An OBE goes to Wendy Parry, whose 12-year-old son Tim was one of two children killed by an IRA bomb in Warrington in March 1993. In all, 1,180 people are recognised, of whom 72 per cent are ‘local heroes’ engaged in charitable or voluntary work within their communities. By CHRISTOPHER STEVENS, MAIL TV CRITIC It must be a cunning plan - for while actor Tony Robinson, who played Baldrick the downtrodden servant in Blackadder, is knighted in today’s Birthday Honours, there is just a CBE for his scheming master Rowan Atkinson. Robinson, whose character was famed for his shabbiness and lack of hygiene, admitted he was ‘a little gob-smacked’ at being honoured and joked that he would now be rescuing damsels in distress and slaughtering dragons if the need arose. More seriously, he added: ‘I’ll use my new title to highlight the causes I believe in, particularly the importance of culture, the arts and heritage in our society, and the plight of the infirm elderly and their carers.’ With his catchphrase ‘I have a cunning plan’, Robinson became Britain’s favourite dogsbody as the long-suffering Baldrick. And as a history-mad presenter on Time Team, he has dug up some of the country’s most prestigious archaeological sites. But his knighthood reflects neither his popularity as a sitcom star nor as a history buff. Instead, the 66-year-old actor was recommended for his ‘public and political service’ as a Labour party activist. His name was put forward by the Parliamentary and Political Services Committee, set up last year by David Cameron to reward party workers. Robinson was a member of Labour’s National Executive Committee for four years during the Blair era, and spent four years as vice-president of the Left-wing actors’ union Equity. His activism has never been low-key - wherever there’s a high-profile Leftie cause, he can often be found waving his red flag. When Bono and Bob Geldof were handing out Make Poverty History wristbands in the run-up to the G8 summit in 2005, Robinson was one of the most vociferous showbusiness supporters. His involvement with Comic Relief has seen him make several documentaries in Africa. In Britain, he rarely seems to miss a demo. At the TUC rally against the Coalition’s spending cuts in March 2011 he was a keynote speaker, and alongside hard-Left Labour MP Diane Abbott he campaigns on issues such as housing and welfare benefits in Hackney, the London borough where he grew up. Robinson was a little-known actor before Blackadder. But his career had begun with a West End success - he was spotted in an amateur show and offered a part as one of Fagin’s boys in the original 1960 production of Lionel Bart’s musical, Oliver! One night, as understudy, he stood in at short notice for the Artful Dodger. The experience left him with a love of comedy acting. He spent years in repertory, then set up a community theatre group. By the time he was cast as Baldrick in 1983, he was in his late 30s with two children. He felt distanced from the rest of the cast: Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, and writers Ben Elton and Richard Curtis, were all young graduates. The son of a council worker, Robinson had left school after gaining four O-levels. ‘The impression you got was that they slid off the silver spoon straight into the rehearsal room at BBC TV Centre,’ he said. Four series of Blackadder made him a household name, but it was a chance encounter with archaeology professor Mick Aston during a holiday in the Greek islands that led to Robinson’s most long-lived TV role - as the eager amateur on Time Team, leaping into Roman excavations or medieval ruins to uncover fragments of history. His enthusiasm was contagious, and the country fell in love with archaeology. Even the Royal Family were swept along. When Robinson was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace, the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Charles became engrossed in conversation about what a Time Team dig could discover at the royal sites. Robinson’s private life has been colourful. He had a short-lived first marriage, when he was 21, and since Time Team launched in 1994, he has had long-term relationships with his admin assistant Heledd Matthias, and with singer-songwriter Teri Bramah. Two years ago, he married his statuesque partner Louise Hobbs, who is 34 years his junior and, at 5ft 9in, five inches taller than him. She is also younger than both his children from his 20-year relationship with Bristol solicitor Mary Shepherd. The knighthood will further increase his profile. He once said: ‘Blackadder fans call out, “I have a cunning plan”. Time Team lovers want me to dig up their garden … while the Tories shout: “You Labour idiot!” ’ From now on, perhaps that should be ‘Sir Labour idiot’.

Revealed: How CR7 was lure back to Old Trafford

Revealed: How Fergie began to lure Ronaldo back to Old Trafford... with a bit of love If football was a game shaped only by hearts and minds, Manchester United would be pretty confident Cristiano Ronaldo would be back at Old Trafford for the start of next season. As it is, the Barclays Premier League champions fear simple economics may dictate otherwise. With Ronaldo unhappy at Real Madrid just four years after leaving Manchester for an Iberian culture and climate that he thought would nurture him forever, highly-placed sources at his former club are increasingly certain that he would like to return to Old Trafford. ‘Cristiano left us because he thought the grass was greener,’ was how it was put to Sportsmail this week. ‘I think now he probably realises that it isn’t.’  However, United, for all that their owners crave a marquee signing this summer, are aware that if Ronaldo does thumb his nose at a new contract in Madrid and decide to leave they may well find themselves outmuscled by the wealth of PSG and Monaco in France. In simple terms, the two French clubs can offer Ronaldo a salary in excess of £300,000 a week that United cannot. They can also get involved in the game of high-stakes cat and mouse over the transfer fee that will inevitably be instigated by Madrid president Florentino Perez if the world’s second-best footballer is to leave. Perez does not sell his best players without seeking something in return.  In this case, the only way that the 66-year-old would save face would be to ensure he received a transfer fee in excess of  the £80million Madrid paid for Ronaldo back in 2009. United remain very much involved in this situation. They have not ruled out Ronaldo’s return. They merely feel it is unlikely unless Ronaldo himself does something remarkable and specifically requests a move back to the club who did so much to make him what he is. Certainly the charm offensive began some time ago — earlier than we thought — and we should not be surprised that it was instigated by Sir Alex Ferguson. It can be revealed that on the night Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford with Madrid in the Champions League last March, Ferguson insisted United break with tradition by having the visiting team names announced second and that Ronaldo’s name should be left until last. This was designed to serve two purposes. Ferguson thought primarily that the ovation it triggered for Ronaldo may just be unsettling, reminding the player how much attention was on him that night. Undoubtedly, though, Ferguson also knew the reception for Ronaldo from the home fans that night would be a reminder of how much they loved him. Whether any of it makes any difference remains to be seen. Certainly, United must make up their mind soon about whether to harden up their interest. Having decided they would like a marquee signing to help sweep away the doubts of a minority of supporters who feel David Moyes’ appointment as Ferguson’s replacement was a little ‘small time’, United owners the Glazer family are prepared to spend a significant amount of the club’s transfer reserves. There is genuine interest in Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and Real’s Luka Modric while there is also a significant liking for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale.  To bring in Bale from White Hart Lane, however, would involve another tedious tug of war with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, and United are aware of what this would entail. United know that Levy — with whom they have a poor relationship after buying Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov from Spurs — would play hard ball over his star asset and that any attempts to buy Bale would inevitably stretch towards the end of the transfer window. United fear they would have to pay over the odds for Bale or end up in a stalemate, left with too little time to land an alternative target. It was this fear that prevented them following up their interest in Modric before he moved from Spurs to Real Madrid last summer and it influences their feelings about Bale right now. Ideally, United and Moyes would like to sign somebody before the first-team squad head to Asia and Australia on July 10. Equally, the club are aware that they need to resolve a  situation with Wayne Rooney that continues to fester. United remain categorical that the centre forward will not be sold.  Equally, though, they are not entirely insensitive to Rooney’s concern that Ferguson’s public suggestion that the player asked to leave in late spring has left him open to criticism from supporters next term. As a result, we can expect words of conciliation from Moyes and from incoming chief executive Ed Woodward prior to the start of the new season.

Kelly Hansome - An Empty Pocket Does Not Deserve A good woman

No money NO Love...

Man catches wife committing adultery

A middle aged housewife in Jos, the Plateau State capital is in trouble after she was caught in her matrimonial bed with another man by her husband. The woman simply identified as Gloria was caught with a neighbour, a father of three who lives some houses away from the couple when the husband returned unexpectedly at their Rukuba Road residence. The husband (names withheld) who sells clothes at the Old Bukuru Park was said to have barely left home for his business when his wife invited her man-friend, identified simply as George to come around as she was sick. According to a neighbour who was with her when she made the call and begged to be anonymous, Gloria told the man friend to buy a pack of Don-Simon and a plate of pepper soup when coming. The neighbour said: “She earlier complained of being ill. I heard her when we were sitting in front of the house telling the person on phone to bring a plate of pepper soup and a drink for her, although I never knew it was her man-friend. “When he came they went out to the woman who sells pepper soup and bought the whole pot. She told me to help her take care of the kids because she had a visitor.” Probably acting on a tip off, the husband returned home earlier than expected and caught her and her lover red handed. According to the husband, “I built a shop for her to sell provisions, so I went to the market to buy protectors to be fixed in the shop. I just came back to realise that the kids were outside and the door locked. “When I knocked she refused to open the door. Some neighbours who saw her and the man told me she was in with somebody, so I raised alarm. “Instead of her to open the door, she opened the ceiling for him to enter and hide. Fortunately, with time a lot of people gathered and an elderly man from my village, who saw what the incident would have resulted to, called the police. She opened the door when the police came to the house, and the man friend came down from the ceiling wearing boxers. This marriage has come to an end.” The man and the woman were taken away by the police for ‘safe custody’ and were later released on bail. Also speaking with Vanguard the wife of the culprit said the rumour of her husband’s illicit affair with their neighbour had been on for some time. “I have heard severally that my husband has been engaging in extra-marital affairs with this woman; I went to her house and told her to leave my husband alone, but she refused. God has finally disgraced her”, she said. She added that she had asked her husband for money earlier that day but he claimed not to have money. “I asked him for money because I felt sick, but he refused to give me saying he was broke”  Source: Vanguard

Since arriving in South America, Balotelli has already been praised by legend Pele.
'Balotelli is a real centre-forward,” Pele was quoted as saying.

The future of El Shaarawy at Milan is not certain with clubs, including Manchester City, monitoring him over the second half of the season.

Milan vice-president Adriano Gallian Galliani denied that the club had received an offer from City, but has now said that El Shaarawy may not necessarily stay at the San Siro, and pointed to Napoli as a possible destination.

‘El Shaarawy? We never said he is not for sale,’ the vice-president told Corriere dello Sport.

‘Napoli? Ask the president Aurelio De Laurentiis.’

Perez claimed last weekend Ronaldo was ready to talk about a new deal, but also confirmed that no formal discussions had taken place yet.

"I am going to be as clear as possible," Perez told Marca. "My aim, Cristiano's aim, and the aim of all Real Madrid fans is that he carries on playing here for many years to come.

"And when so many people want the same thing then it usually turns out to be the case. I myself and Real Madrid both want that. The player, Cristiano Ronaldo wants that...Without a shadow of a doubt.'

Nigeria Is 14th Least Peaceful Country In The World - GPI

Nigeria has been ranked 148 out of the 162 countries evaluated on the reduction of violence and insecurity between 2012 and 2013 by the Global Peace Index. This rating earns Nigeria the 14th fewer peaceful country around the world in the rank of countries like Chad, Yemen, Libya, Syria, and Pakistan among another conflict ridden states.

According to the publisher of the Index, Institute for Economics and Peace-IEP, “The world has become a less peaceful place”. The 2013 Global Peace Index, ranks 162 countries by measuring security in society, the extent of conflict and the degree of militarization. This year's report reinforces a longer-term pattern they have noted: since 2008, levels of peace have fallen by 5%.
The report highlighted that while the number and intensity of internal conflicts have risen over recent years, hostility between states has fallen.

In Nigeria, this is evident in the multitude of mindless killings and bombings in the North, untamed manhunt and kidnapping in the South, endless violence in the East and gross human molestation and abuse of fundamental rights in the West.

From 2007 to date, Nigeria has consistently ranked low on the index, signifying worsening state of the nation in terms of peace and security in the past six years.

The country ranked 117th out of 121 in 2007; 129th out of 140 in 2008; 129th out of 144 in 2009; 137th out of 149 in 2010; 142nd out of 153 in 2011; 146 out of 158 in 2012.

Recently, A New York-based Human Rights Watch said about 3,600 deaths has been recorded since a radical sect dubbed Boko Haram began violent operations in the Northern region of the country in 2009. Although, government is now waging war against the insurgents through an emergency rule.
With this rating as the 14th less peaceful country in the world, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and one of the world’s largest oil producer has so much to contend in order to achieve its developmental goals.

The global outlook indicated a dramatic rise in the number of homicides and more countries, 59, increasing their military expenditure as a percentage of GDP were the key drivers in making the world a less peaceful place, according to the 2013 GPI. This year’s findings were said to underline a six-year trend showing a deterioration of five per cent in global peace. It indicated that 110 countries have seen their score deteriorate while only 48 became more peaceful. The economic impact of this five per cent loss in peace came with a cost to the global economy of US$473 billion last year, or the equivalent to almost four times Official Development Assistance (ODAs) in 2012; it unveiled.

The sharp increase in the number of homicides - up eight per cent over the last year – can be nearly entirely attributed to Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa with, for example, the homicide rate in Honduras further increasing by almost 10 per 100,000 people - becoming the highest in the world at 92 homicides per 100,000 people, the 2013 GPI revealed.

Steve Killelea, founder and Executive Chairman of the IEP, was quoted to have said that, “The migration of populations to urban areas in developing countries has been a key driver in the rise of homicides worldwide. This has also led to an increase in violent crime. It is essential for the police to gain the trust of those living in city slums, to achieve this; addressing police corruption would be a first important step”.

Omotola husband’s scrap plane causes panic in Lagos

plane crash

A scrap plane formerly owned by the late Apostle Gabriel Oduyemi of Bethel Ministries, Ajah, Lagos, caused panic in the city on Thursday as rumour spread that another aircraft had crashed in Lagos.

It was learnt that the plane, which was recently released to Capt Matthew Ekeinde, husband of Nollywood star, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, was being dragged to Badagry area of the state before its tyre burst. The incident forced the new owner to dump the plane in a nearby filling station.

Hundreds of residents trooped out with their smart phones and camera, and queued behind the gate of Dapsey Oil filling station at Igando where the plane was parked.

A senior employee of the filling station said the plane, with registration number N972TF, was being towed from Muritala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja to Badagry when one of the tyres burst.

He said, “The plane was brought here around 2am after one of its tyres burst. It was being towed by a red vehicle, but after it got to Igando, they discovered it would be difficult to get it to its destination with burst tyre, which was why they brought it here.”

The Lagos State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Damasus Ozoani, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the police provided escort for the plane.

He said, “About 12.45am, the command got a directive to escort the jet from MMIA Ikeja to Badagry by road.

“The operation was led by one Capt. Matthew Ekeinde, but in the process of the journey, one of the jet’s tyres burst at College Bus Stop and the jet could not move.

“It was parked at Dapsey Filling Station along Igando for repairs. We have provided security for the plane until it is moved to Badagry.”

PUNCH Metro observed that men of The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps were on the ground to “ensure the safety of people” living in the area.

The Igando Divisional Police Officer, Adeoye Olugbemiga, came with his team around 12pm to control on-lookers.

In a short time, some of the residents turned the scene into an amusement park and began to pose and take shots near the plane.

One of our correspondents observed that the plane’s two wings had been chopped off and the cockpit was stuffed with nylons.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Nnamdi Udoh, in a statement, said the aircraft had long been within the agency’s facility till Wednesday night when it was removed.

Udoh said, “The aircraft that was sighted by the residents was actually a junk one belonging to the late Apostle Gabriel Oduyemi of Bethel Ministries.

“The aircraft was actually released to Capt Ekeinde who will be using it for educational purposes in Badagry, Lagos.”

Ekeinde confirmed on the telephone that the scrap plane belonged to him.
He said, “The aircraft will be situated in a multipurpose and entertainment centre which wlll be open very soon.

“When opened, the centre will be the first of its kind in West Africa.”

LASU Administrator Diverts Tuition Fees

lasu
The administrator of Lagos State University, LASU, Onipanu Annex, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, Mr Olusesan Oduwole, has been charged before a court with stealing after he allegedly bolted with students’ tuition  fees.

The 33-year old administrator allegedly stole N5 million after printing his own receipts and collected the money from the students.

Oduwole  fled when the management eventually discovered what he was doing.

Though Oduwole was later arrested by the police at Area ‘D’ Mushin, the school could not recover the money from him.

According to the school’s management, Oduwole was employed as an administrator by the institution and was allocated some receipts to use to collect students’ tuition fees.

Instead of doing so, he secretly printed his own receipts and was diverting some of the money to himself.

This had been going on for a while, but unknown to him, the new receipts he was given were secretly marked.
He was eventually caught when the management discovered that he issued his own receipts to students and when he was confronted, he allegedly owned up to the fraud.

He said he did so to raise money to solve his personal problems.
Oduwole was handed over to the police.

He allegedly made confessional statement to the police and said that he did not divert up to N5 million.

He was charged to Isolo Magistrate’s Court with stealing under the Criminal Code.
When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Kayode, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending the perfection of his bail. The matter was adjourned till 20 June.

Christian Graves Vandalised In Arab Cemetry

grave

Attackers desecrated graves in an Arab Christian cemetery in Jaffa and damaged property nearby, in an incident that bore the hallmarks of a “price tag” hate crime, Israeli police said on Thursday.

The attack sparked a sharp condemnation from the Council of Religious Institutions of the Holy Land, which said it was “incensed” by the vandalism.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said that headstones in the Orthodox Christian graveyard in Jaffa, a mixed Arab-Jewish area in southern Tel Aviv, were sprayed with Hebrew graffiti and the tyres of five vehicles parked nearby were slashed.

“Apparently the incident took place overnight,” he told AFP, saying the attackers had daubed “price tag” and revenge” at the site.

“Price tag” is the term given extremist hate crimes by Jewish Israelis which generally target Arabs.
Initially carried out against Palestinians in retaliation for state moves to dismantle Jews-only colonist outposts not authorised by the Israeli occupation, such attacks have become a much broader phenomenon unrelated to any anti-colony moves.
They tend to involve the vandalism or destruction of property and have included arson attacks on cars, mosques and olive trees.

In a statement, the Council of Religious Institutions of the Holy Land, which groups the Israeli Chief Rabbinate, Palestinian Authority’s ministry of Waqf and religious affairs, and top church leaders, said it was “incensed” by the attack on the cemetery.

“Acts of graffiti not only offend the sensitivities of the communities whose sites have been desecrated but also those whose symbols have been misused to commit the hateful act,” the group said in a statement.

A police official on Wednesday told a parliamentary committee that in 2012 they had opened 623 files on “price tag” incidents, arrested 200 people and served 123 indictments in connection with such attacks.

Superintendant Galit Ziv told the Israeli parliament’s interior committee that this year, police had opened 165 files on “price tag” incidents, arrested 76 suspects and served 31 indictments.

Two weeks ago anti-Christian graffiti was daubed on the Church of the Dormition, one of Jerusalem’s leading pilgrimage sites.

Police said they suspected Jewish religious extremists of spraying the Hebrew-language insults at the site, where tradition says the Virgin Mary died. [AFP]

Man Arrested For Defacing Queen’s Portrait

queeen-portrait_2589259b

British Police said they had arrested a man after a portrait of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth was defaced with paint at Westminster Abbey on Thursday.

The painting, by Australian-born London-based artist Ralph Heimans, had been part of a display marking the 60 years since the queen’s coronation in 1953.

“In an incident at lunchtime today, a visitor to the Abbey sprayed paint on the Ralph Heimans portrait of the queen presently on display in the Chapter House,” an Abbey spokesman said.
“Until work can be done to remedy the damage, it will, very regrettably, not be possible to have the painting on public view.”

London’s Metropolitan Police said security guards had detained a suspect at the scene. Officers arrested the 41-year-old man on suspicion of criminal damage and he has been taken to a central
 London police station for questioning.

No details about the motive for the attack have emerged but the incident was not being linked to a week-long series of protests against a meeting of G8 leaders which Britain is hosting in Northern Ireland next week.
