N100 Bribe: Policewoman Caught In Video Arrested

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday said it had arrested a policewoman caught in a video footage demanding a bribe of N100 from a commercial bus driver.

Public Relations Officer of the command, Ngozi Braide, told our correspondent on the telephone that the arrest followed a probe of the video which has been circulating on the social media.

"We have arrested her and she is presently in custody. She will be made to undergo an orderly room trial and the outcome will be made public,'' Braide said.

When asked to provide the name and the station the female cop was attached, Braide said she could not immediately provide the details and told our correspondent to call back.

Subsequent calls placed to her phone were not answered. A text message sent to her phone on the matter was also not replied.

In the last 24 hours, the one-minute 25 seconds video, which first appeared on YouTube, has attracted double the amount of views, moving from 23,000 to over 46, 000 as at the time of this report.

In the footage, the policewoman was heard insisting on collecting the N100 bribe from a driver who she apprehended for violating a traffic rule at a yet-to-be identified location in Lagos.

The driver who had passengers in the bus was heard appealing to her that he should be allowed to proceed on his journey. But the driver's pleas fell on deaf ears as the policewoman insisted on collecting the bribe.

The policewoman was heard saying, "E no concern me. Pay me my own money."

Shekau’s Alleged Death: FG Refuses To Comment

Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau

The Federal Government has said it will not get involved in the controversy over the military Joint Task Force claim that the leader of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, might have died after being fatally wounded during a gun duel with the Nigerian Army.
The JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, had said in a statement that Shekau sustained serious gunshot wounds in an encounter with the troops in one of their camps at Sambisa Forest on June 30, 2013 and that it was believed that he was dead.

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, on Wednesday, said the Federal Government's position since the declaration of state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states was to allow the military carry out their operations and manage information emanating from the operations without interference.

Maku said it was the government's view that the military should be allowed to tell its story without undue "political comments" by government officials.

He said, "You will notice that since the President proclaimed the state of emergency three months ago, we have kept political comments out of it. We decided that it is better for the military to tell their story and that is why I have not spoken on it.

"We want to remove this security operation from any misunderstanding, especially from politicians. As a government, it is our operation but the most important thing is to allow the military tell the story of what is happening.

"From the story you and I have read, it is very clear that this state of emergency has achieved a lot of result for which all Nigerians are proud of the performance of our military and security services."

The minister however said the information released by security agencies on the possible death of the sect leader was a morale booster for Nigerians and the military.

He said the implication was that security forces were closing in on the insurgents.

He asked Nigerians to continue to pray for the security operatives so that they could continue to succeed in their bid to rid the nation of terrorists.

He said, "Relating to the story (Shekau's possible killing) that we have read, I think it is better we leave it at that. These people are on the run and we will allow the military to tell the story.

"The military said that it would appear that in one of their operations, the leader of the insurgents was mortally wounded and they were rushing him from place to place and they believe that he could indeed be dead. There is no question of losing confidence. It should give us more confidence.

"What it means is that the security forces are closing up on some of the kingpins of this murderous group that has denied thousands of Nigerians their lives. Some of the key leaders have been pronounced dead."

The minister said that normalcy was gradually returning to troubled northern states as a result of efforts of security forces.

He said many parts of Borno State that had already come under siege had been reclaimed and the militants dislodged.

Breaking: Pastor Ajanaku Resurrects?

Like a proverbial cat with nine lives, controversial pastor and estranged spiritual father of popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi, Prophet Iretiola Ajanaku is said to have regained life after being certified dead.

Hospital sources revealed that while effort were being made to prepare him for morgue, the man, who has refused to die, awoke and shouted 'Thank You Jesus!' and relapsed into a spiritual slumber.

Meanwhile, his wife, we gathered, has been telling sympathisers that "I knew daddy would come back to life again." Right now, we cannot categorically tell you if the man will awake again or not.

Another report has it that, while preparations were in top gear to get his body deposited at a nearby morgue, a medical doctor was said to have been contacted to certify him dead and get a death certificate but they were shocked when the doctor declared that the man still has live in his body. For now his inner members are insisting that the prophet should be left till Friday, believing that he would have come back fully to life. So the waiting continues.

Prophet Ajanaku who is famous with popular gospel singer Tope Alabi's fame was recently in the public eye when he opened up that the singer had demanded s*x from him.

Tickets for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil went on sale on Tuesday, with fans able to apply on Fifa’s website.
Fifa is expecting a similar demand to Germany 2006, when there were about seven applicants for every ticket of the 64-match tournament.
Around 3.3 million tickets will be available for the tournament.
Tickets will range in price from £58 (US $90) for first-round matches to £632 ($990) for the final at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazilian citizens over 60, local students and members of some social programs can purchase tickets for £15 ($23).
“It’s always difficult to predict,” said Fifa marketing director Thierry Weil. “But I truly believe that it will be more toward to what happened in Germany than in South Africa in 2010.”
According to Fifa, the 2006 World Cup was attended by more than 3.3 million fans. Almost two million tickets were sold to the general public in South Africa, although the number of applications during the first ticketing phase was significantly lower.
All applications made before 10 October 2013 will enter a random selection draw if there are not enough tickets available to fulfil all requests.
The sales of the leftover tickets will begin on 5 November on a first-come, first-served basis. Another phase will begin on 8 December after the draw is made.
The tournament begins on 12 June, with Brazil playing the opener in Sao Paulo. [H/T Bbc Sports]
