New Yoruba Rappers Are No Threat To Me –9ice

9ice Popular Yoruba lyricist, 9ice, who is currently on a playing tour of the United States, says he is not giving up on his music career, in this interview with
JAYNE AUGOYE

Many fans of the popular singer, Abolore Akande, aka 9ice, have wondered why he has not been visible on the music scene lately. But the lanky singer, who serenaded his fans with hit songs that include ‘Gongo Aso’, ‘Photocopy’, ‘Attitude’ and ‘Energy’, has been ‘missing in action’ says he has been away on a playing tour of different parts of the world.
The tour is part of the current drive by his new managers to prepare him for a more result-oriented future.
He says, “I’ve been silent because there’s a difference in approach to my promotions, shows, tours and song releases. I always release an album every year. But after I dropped ‘Bashorun Gaa’ and ‘Versus’, I decided to release a double album every two years. My last double album was released on December 7, 2011, to be precise. Another album is due to be released in December.”
On his latest single, ‘Ike Kan’, the artiste engaged the services of top music producer, Don Jazzy. The track did not gain as much attention as his past works. It remains unnoticed in certain quarters.
But 9ice, who hopes to drop a follow-up single,’Life Drama’, later this month, has a contrary perception.
“So far, it has been so good. Three weeks of Internet promotions and the attendant public reception has been massive. I haven’t printed a copy of the single album for promotions yet, but the song is known everywhere. What more can I say? The magic touch does the job,” he says.
Although the singer, who began writing songs at age 14, may have been temporarily off the scene, he insists that he has not lost his sparkle.
“In terms of record sales, recognition and acceptance, I have achieved more after the ‘Gongo Aso’ album was released. If they want to judge me in terms of appearances in public, then I can agree a bit because lately I’ve tried to limit my movement to professional engagement venues. More so, I’ve performed in a lot of shows outside the shores of the country and I have also tried to stay away from controversies,” he adds.
The singer, who is currently on a playing tour of the US and having recently covered Dublin, Ireland, and Glasgow, Scotland, speaks glowingly about the experience.
“The reception for me is the same everywhere. I am accepted in Nigeria and abroad. So I can’t say which is better. The feeling I get both ways is superb. Austria is the next stop. I will also touch Aberdeen, China, Dubai, Moscow and also Amsterdam by the end of November this year,” he gushes.
Owing to the lull being experienced in the music industry, most artistes fall back on endorsement deals. But 9ice, who is yet to bag any deal, is only optimistic for now.
“It will definitely come one way or the other. With or without it, I have sustained and maintained my standards. My focus is to make good music, inspire people and change my environment positively. Every other blessing is an addition. Endorsement is a good idea for celebrities to upgrade and reap the sweat of their labour while promoting and adding value to the brands,” he says.
Eight years down the line, the singer, who was once a member of the group known as Mysterious Boys, says he is contented.
“I believe I have achieved many of my goals. I can say I am on 50 per cent achievement right now and I am looking forward to another 50 per cent to wrap up my score sheet. So far, I have won a MOBO award. So, all I am working towards is getting a Grammy. My record sales are on point, my acceptance is never shaking, credibility is evergreen and inspiring songs are always coming,” he says.
9ice adds that the new school of artistes does not pose a threat. As far as he is concerned, it is a level playing field. “The sky is more than big for every bird to fly. Before Da’grin died, there were so many artistes that could rap, sing and chant in Yoruba language. Now the number has increased. I can’t be threatened because many more are still coming. I don’t follow trends. Mind you trend always changes, what would be my legacy if I just follow every trend? Trend always fades out. What is trending today may become annoying tomorrow,” he says.
With his highly anticipated G.R.A. album scheduled for release in December, the singer now looks beyond music. He says, “I am studying public safety and Common Law at the Capella University in the US. Law has always been part of me from my days in secondary school. I feel a lot of people in my community still don’t understand the essence of law and so many are ignorant. I love being my brother’s keeper and fighting for the less privileged.”
Fame like wealth, sometimes comes unexpectedly. For the unprepared artiste, it is a huge task managing both. But, 9ice says he has been lucky in this regard.
“I was able to cope based on the fact that I was opportune to learn the basics from the likes of Lord of Ajasa. Now the new generation can do as they wish, one man’s food is another man’s poison, but generally speaking investing in ones future is the way forward.
Looking into the future, 9ice is optimistic, yet he silently nurses a fear. “Failure. I don’t want to fail in whatever I do. I want to excel, break grounds, discover new ways of making music, and retain the identity of an icon or legend,”he reveals.

Colleges of Education Begin Strike

College of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, Agbor Chapter, has commenced a one-week warning strike in line with the directive from the national leadership of the union.

This came as the three labour unions in the Delta State Colleges of Education in Agbor, Mosogar and Warri, have served notice of strike action to the state government.

In a statement by Dr. Anthony Ossai and Patrick Kwaja, the union’s Chairman and Secretary, respectively, said that the decision to embark on the industrial action was taken at an emergency congress held on Monday at the college premises.

The statement noted that the National Executive Council, NEC, of COEASU, at a meeting held on September 4, in Abuja, frowned at the failure of Federal Government to respect the past agreement it reached with the Union.

It said the agreement bothered on a number of issues plaguing the teachers’ education in Nigeria.
Another source of dispute, according to the statement, was the decision of government to remove the staff of demonstration schools from government pay-roll.

Leave Me Out Of Your Fight With Obasanjo, Ribadu Tells Waziri

wpid-ribadu.jpeg
Former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has asked the immediate past chairman of the commission, Mrs Farida Waziri, to leave him out of her fight with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Ribadu in a press statement, issued to the media on Thursday, also told Mrs. Waziri that EFCC was not about him so rubbishing its work is like insulting all the thousands of the commission’s operatives across the country who put their lives on the line to make Nigeria a better country.
The former police officer who pointed out that he never worked under Mrs. Waziri as she claimed, stated that it is sad that after all the damage she inflicted on the operations and credibility of the EFCC, she turns back to abuse the young men and women who had put in all their energy to cleaning up the country.
“It is not correct that I worked under Mrs Waziri, as she always claims. This is a naked lie that she keeps flaunting to seek undue relevance and validate her own appointment. At no time in my career did I work under the same section or unit with her.
“In fact, contrary to Waziri’s claim that she “trained” me, it was I who actually lectured her and other, on fraud investigations and prosecution when she was newly posted as Head of Special Fraud Unit, even though she was my senior in rank. I was then the Head of Prosecution at the Tribunals under the leadership of Mr Sunday Ehindaro, then CP Legal.

Saraki Clears Air on EFCC Invitation

bukola_saraki2
A former Kwara State Governor and one of the arrowheads of the breakaway faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Bukola Saraki, yesterday hinted that he might still be invited for questioning by other security agencies of government if efforts to resolve the crisis rocking the party fails.

Saraki however said he had given sufficient answers to all queries raised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the N17 billion bond raised by his administration in 2010.

Speaking in Ilorin yesterday while answering reporters’ questions about his latest invitation by the commission, Saraki said: “I may not be surprised, given the current scenario in the national polity if another agency wakes up tomorrow to say it has discovered some other issues I must answer for.”
According to him, “I have given out the full details of how my administration utilised the bond and praised the EFCC team that interrogated me for being professional.”

Saraki, a two-term governor of the state and now senator representing the Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, added: “Yes I was with EFCC on Monday and Tuesday to answer queries on the bond issue.

“I made it clear that bond is not money available to any government just like that; that to access it you must go through a rigorous process; that we had to submit ourselves to international evaluation before we could raise the bond.

“I gave them details of how we spent the bond because if any government wants to be reckless, it won’t issue a bond that has stringent conditions before you can access it. I listed the projects we used the money for and they are all verifiable.”

Among the projects the funds raised from the bond were used for included the Aviation College, irrigation project, Ilorin water reticulation, township stadium, rural electrification, Kwara State University, loan refinancing and the Kwara Mall, he said.

Saraki, who equally addressed youth leaders of the New PDP from the 16 local government councils of the state, stressed that it was “unfortunate that we all know what is happening today in Nigeria, so I won’t be surprised if another agency wakes up tomorrow to say they have a new thing on me.”
This clarification came along with the disclosure by Saraki that only three out of eight issues that had led to the dispute between the Tukur-led PDP and his faction had been thrashed out. Another meeting, he said, has been fixed for Sunday on the crisis.

The federal lawmaker also dismissed insinuations that the political battle between members of the New PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan was as a result of a personal grouse by members of the faction, saying it was aimed at saving Nigeria.

On the Sunday meeting between his group and Jonathan, he said his group would meet with the governors from his side to review the outcome of the last reconciliatory meeting as a means of moving the attempt at peace forward.

He said: “It is wrong for people to say or think that what we are doing is due to a personal grouse and it is because the president is weak unlike former President Olusegun Obasanjo. No, even if it were Obasanjo today, things would be different because the environment is different.”

He called on the youths in the state to continue to support the New PDP, saying the future of this nation rests on them and they should avoid being used by self-seeking politicians that lack pedigree to take them to anywhere in the country.

New Delhi gang rapists sentenced to death

no to rape 2
(AFP) – The judge hearing the case of four men convicted for fatally gang raping a 23-year-old student on a bus in New Delhi last December sentenced them to death on Friday.
Judge Yogesh Khanna said the case fell into the “rarest of rare category”, which justified capital punishment.
“In these times when crimes against women are on the rise, court cannot turn a blind eye to this gruesome act,” he said.
All the four suspects were teary eyed as they entered the cramped room dressed more smartly than on Tuesday when they were convicted of a string of charges including murder and gang rape.
One of the men, Vinay Sharma, broke down in tears and cried loudly as the sentence was announced.
As the news broke, crowds inside the building and outside the courtroom roared with cheers and applauded the judgement.
The prosecution team congratulated each other, with lead lawyer Dayan Krishnan saying: “We did our job. We are happy with this sentence.”
The father of the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said the family was also satisfied as he left with his wife and sons.
“We are very happy. Justice has been delivered,” he told reporters inside court flanked by his wife and sons.

Shell offers to pay N7.5bn for oil spill

shell

The Shell Petroleum Development Company has offered to pay N7.5 billion to the indigenes of Bodo community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers, who were affected by the 2008 oil spill.
The News Agency of Nigeria gathered on Thursday that the offer was made at the ongoing settlement negotiations between the company and representatives of the community.

The meeting is taking place in Port Harcourt.

NAN reports that the company had made the proposal and was awaiting the response of the community’s representatives and their lawyers.
Shell had accepted responsibility for the 2008 oil spill which polluted the waterways of the fishing communities.
The company, however, insisted that the volume of the spill and number of those who lost their means of livelihood were exaggerated.
Shell’s spokesman, Mr. Joseph Obari, said: “We took part in this week’s settlement negotiations with two objectives – to make a generous offer of compensation to those who have suffered hardship as a result of the two highly regrettable operational spills in 2008, and to make progress in relation to the cleanup.
“We await the community’s response to our compensation proposal, and we’re pleased to have made progress in relation to the cleanup.
“SPDC and the Bodo community have committed their full support for the cleanup process, currently in progress, with the support of Bert Ronhaar, the former Netherlands Ambassador to Nigeria,’’ he added.
Obari said that Shell had also proposed a series of interim measures to begin the removal of oil from the area.
“Of course, the success of any interim measures and final remediation depends on the cessation of oil theft and illegal refining in the area,” he said.

Kim and Kanye inspect construction of their $11million mansion

ASUU strike: ANC gives FG seven-day ultimatum

A civil rights organisation, the  Anti-Corruption Network,  has given the Federal Government "one week" to resolve its dispute with the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

It said it would mobilise Nigerians  for a protest  to the Federal Ministry of Education.

The group, which expressed disappointment at government's lukewarm attitude to  the plight of students,   suggested that President Goodluck Jonathan should take loan to offset the N92bn  being demanded by ASUU.

It said in a statement by  its  Executive Secretary ,  Dino Melaye, that   government's attitude showed that it had no interest in  the future  of Nigerian students.

The statement reads in part, "The ongoing face-off between the Federal Government and ASUU  is a reflection of bad government and keeping quiet would be like the proverbial adult who, while at home, allowed the she-goat to suffer the pains of malnutrition on its tether.

"The Federal Government as far back as 2009 went into an agreement with ASUU and signed that agreement. Why will you agree to what you don't intend to do? A gentleman will go into an agreement and then carry out the agreement to the latter. The agreement was made in 2009; why was there no budgetary provision for that agreement in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013?

"Why would the Federal Government enter into an agreement they don't intend to implement? So we are giving them one week of grace and if by Friday next week, the government did not resolve the crisis with ASUU, we will mobilise Nigerians, students and parents to be on the streets to protest against this reckless and irresponsible government.

"By Friday next week, if the Federal Government refuses to resolve the ASUU crisis, we will  protest to the Federal Ministry of Education where we will register our anger  against an insensitive government.

"They just went to China to secure a loan of $1.1bn.  Why is it difficult for the Federal Government to raise N92bn to solve the problem in our  education sector? Education is the bedrock of every development;  it is the bedrock of any nation. It is shameful that the Federal Government is showing this lackadaisical attitude  towards the next generation.

"If the Federal Government is serious, there is something in the parliament that is called virement. There are lots of contracts that have been budgeted for in this dispensation that they have not even started  this month.

"All the Federal Government needed to do is for the President to write the National Assembly and seek for a virement or even take a loan. They can spend money on frivolities, they can spend money on very many unreasonable things. But the Federal Government cannot source for N92bn. Above all,  the Federal Government has shown that is is not a responsible government."

Also the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, on Thursday advocated for sustainable peace in Nigeria and its universities.

According to him, sustainable peace is very crucial to the  realisation of Nigeria's scientific, technological and socio-economic  needs.

"Without peace, there won't be any chance for development, and this will be disastrous for Nigeria and the world,'' the Sultan said.

He also said that peace in the universities and other institutions would impact positively on the training of quality manpower for the nation.

"If this is not ensured, the opposite will be the case and the county would continue to lag behind,''the monarch added.

Dressing Like C-Ronaldo Will cost you awful more, As Bale's outfit worth £902 While Ronaldo's oufit worths £12,192 on their First Meeting

How to get the Galactico look... but dressing like Ronaldo will cost you an awful lot more

Real Madrid's two biggest stars came face-to-face on Wednesday and it wasn't just their football talent which was being compared.
The car park became a designers' paradise, with Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and more shown off by the pair as they strolled in for training.
Gareth Bale may have won the price-tag battle, coming in at £86million compared with Cristiano Ronaldo's £80m, but he's still left in the shade by the Portuguese ace when it comes to fashion.

Get the Bale look

1.  Dolce & Gabbana T-shirt - £122
Bale has gone for the T-shirt look compared to Ronaldo's more formal attire, but possibly only those two could afford the whopping price-tag of Dolce & Gabbana.
2.  Louis Vuitton washbag - £420
Every professional footballer worth his weight has to have a luxury washbag in one arm as they walk into the training ground. They just look wrong without it. Conditioner, hair gel and aftershave are a must.
3.  Dolce & Gabbana jeans - £355
The battle between the star pair continues below the belt with Bale choosing a grey shade to match his hoodie. He does beat Ronaldo on price, that is if spending more is the object.
4.  Carrier bag (5p in Wales)
From October 2011, all plastic bags in Wales carry a 5p charge to try and reduce amount used. It seems to have worked, as Bale has taken his all the way from the UK to Madrid.
5.  Hoodie brand - unknown
On this front Bale has gone for the slightly maverick look. Having come from Cardiff, he will take time to adapt to the heat of Spain where jumpers aren't necessary.
Total = £902

Get the Ronaldo look

1.  Chrome Heart Sunglasses - £552
Ronaldo is rarely seen without sunglasses when off the field and sometimes looks like he could happily play with them on, too. Theses aren't your bog-standard Specsavers pair, however. He could have bought 552 Chelseas back in 1982 with this money.
2.  Gucci washbag - £265
When it comes to his toiletries, Ronaldo has gone for the cheap-skate look. Only £265. That's barely a bottle of shower gel compared to Bale's £420.

3.  Dolce & Gabbana belt - £450
He may shirk the high prices when it comes to washbags, but not on belts. Ronaldo proudly shows off his £450 Dolce and Gabbana whereas Bale can just stand and admire.
4.  Jacob and Co watch - £10,600
Ronaldo models for Jacob and Co, proudly showing off his orange watch-face on their website. He's not known for ever being late, although that may have more to do with his Ferrari collection.
5.  DSquared jeans - £325
Again coming in at slightly less than Bale, Ronaldo was wearing the traditional blue coloured jeans, tatty by design, but smart enough to be taken seriously. Expect Bale to ditch the grey within the coming weeks.
6.  Shirt brand - unknown
Rolling up the sleeves in a casual way (yet they are perfectly symmetrical), Ronaldo appears laid back and stylish at the same time. The 'modern man' look.

Mesut Ozil: I am a Gunner as He Reveals He cant wait to get started for the EPL

Arsenal's new record signing Mesut Ozil is relishing the challenge of playing in the 'physical' Barclays Premier League and has no worries about coping with the demands of 'a man's sport'.
The 24-year-old Germany midfielder was speaking after training with his new team-mates for the first time this morning, following his £42.5million switch from Real Madrid.
'I look forward to playing in this league - I watched so many Premier League games,' Ozil said. 'Of course, its very physical, it's a man's sport, and I want to prove myself in England. I also played in Bundesliga and Spain and proved myself.'

Ozil also spoke about why he was not disappointed to have left Madrid, how manager Arsene Wenger's trust in him was key to the switch and how he feels the Premier League is 'the strongest league in the world'.
'The most important thing was what the manager thinks about me and what his plan for me is. I decided to come to Arsenal because I have the trust and familiar environment here,' he said,
'I would have come here without a fee. The most important is that the manager trusts me, that's the crucial point. I've talked about this in the past, I didn't get the respect and trust - it was a bit difficult.
'When I spoke to Arsene Wenger on the phone I felt the respect. I need the respect. I don't want to talk about Real Madrid, that topic is over. I will have many years here.
'I'm not disappointed - I'm at Arsenal, one of the biggest clubs in the world.
'I had a very good time in Madrid - I had friends there and good moments. You could see from their reaction they didn't understand the move. But you have to look ahead. I'm in the strongest league in the world and I have to continue developing.
They didn't have to say a lot about the club. I know how successful they have been, players like (Thierry) Henry, (Cesc) Fabrgeas. Many young players came here and got to become one of the best players in the world.'

The midfielder said he was delighted to have signed for the Gunners and feels the side can challenge for Premier League title.
'It feels great to be an Arsenal player, I feel very good,' he said.
'The city is very nice and you can see how familiar this club is. When I arrived everything was great, the boss is great and everyone is very cordial. He will improve me and I'm very happy to be part of this team.
'I couldn't really think a lot about Arsenal because I had to focus on Germany but I asked Per (Mertesacker) and Pod (Lukas Poldolski) about it. I was curious and I look forward to it.
'The young players develop well here and this one of the reasons I came here. I'm really happy to be here under such a great manager.
'We want to play offensive football and to keep clean sheets. We can't promise to win trophies but I will promise to give all to win trophies
'Of course, we can challenge for Premier League title. I know the team and what talent we have here. Everyone wants to be successful, this one of the biggest clubs ins the world. It will be difficult because it's one of the strongest leagues in the world.'

Footballers have long had a penchant for bizarre styles as shown by the likes of Giovanni Simeone.
The River Plate star resorted to drastic measure to try and make a name for himself after living in the footballing shadow of his father, Argentina legend Diego Simeon, by turning up for training with a strange shaved top of the head, with long back and sides, and finished off with a delightful quiff on the crown of his head.

Man who had sex with a goat is jailed for six weeks

goat-main-2268943 A man has been jailed for six weeks for having sex with a goat.
Robert Newman, 23, attacked the animal in a barn in Devizes, Wiltshire, and left it so badly injured after the sick night time attack that it had to be treated by a vet.
Newman had initially denied one charge of having sex with a living animal between April 5 and April 16 this year, but later changed his plea and admitted the offence.
He had already been banned from every farm in the country in a bid to protect livestock, but magistrates jailed him for six weeks today after hearing a victim impact statement from the goat’s female owner.
The woman, who was not named, said: “My husband is worried about me being on the farm on my own.
“This person has cost us a considerable amount of money because we have had to install security cameras.
“We have also had to pay for vets fees and antibiotics for the injuries sustained by the goat.”
Defending Newman, solicitor Anne Ellery told North West Wiltshire Magistrates Court that his behaviour was a “symptom of isolation rather than depravity”.
She said: “This is a young man suffering from isolation.
“His understanding of what happened is unknown to him.
“Treatment is certainly something that he will need to seek.
“His delay in admitting the behaviour was because of the embarrassment and shame that went with it.”
In his own statement, Newman said: “I don’t want to be this bad person anymore, I just want to get on with my life and do good.
“I want to stand before you and say I am sorry and I just want to be back with my family.”

Denrele explains how Beverly Osu got selected for BBA: The Chase

Denrele-Edun..
Furious whispers have insisted, since Beverly Osu was first announced as a housemate for the just concluded Big Brother Africa: The Chase reality show, that TV personality, Denrele Edun, played a major role in her entry.
Ada-Beverly-Osu-1
In an interview with Hot FM in Abuja, Denrele was said to have confirmed the rumours when he asked if the rumours were true.
Here is what he told Hot FM:
“I had a lot of people come to me during the ‘Beverly season’ funny thing is that we filled Beverly form in Goldie’s house, Goldie was in US at the time, I had filled 12, then another 12 infact close to like 50 people, everybody had their own personality and I had to make it special for everyone.
‘In her (Beverly) own case, I kept telling her oya (sic) start writing, she was a little non-challant, before we even got Beverly to write it was difficult, others took it seriously, we just need people to give us that extra push in this country which is what we lack, the industry is wide enough for everyone.
Big Brother House mate Oneal from Botswana was quoted to have said ‘he was in the studio and they came to pick him up for the Competition’

According to sources, Dayo Adeneye must have bitten more than he can chew as his unguarded extra marital affairs has started to hunt him as plans to get rid of the pregnancy which his UK mistress had for him was abortive leaving D1 at crossroads.

This office gathered reliably that D1 met this Calabar born babe, Susan Ekpe during the 2009 Nottinghill Carnival and the duo has been closely inseparable since then to the extent that D1 found her house in London as second home and was even at his best when Susan came to Nigeria for the first time, learnt he sent his car to pick her at the airport and also spoilt her silly during her stay.

The source who`s close to the lovebirds hinted that the once bubbly Susan is now a sad lady as she now has to nurture and fend, all alone for her almost 2 years old child, a bouncing baby girl who`s D1`s perfect replica.

We were told that, D1 had actually been strict with the use of condom during the constant relationship that lasted almost 4 years until he decided to go it `raw`  one fateful evening.

Weeks after, the result came and our dear D1 stood his ground that it must be an abortion, though Susan who`s then in her early 30s tried all she could but unfortunately the baby who`s now named Rebecca refused to be aborted given credence to its Biblical meaning of ~To Bind~, so the baby has forever bind the union.

Rebecca`s mum who works in the UK is sick and tired of everything, according to sources, she`s not asking for too much, not marriage this time but for the broadcaster to take up his responsibility and all this she has tried to pursue in a solemn and subtle way without success.

In our facts finding mission, we tried to get in touch with Dayo Adeneye for his own side of the story, when this office got him, he was so attentive but the moment he heard the name, Susan Ekpe, he quickly cut off the phone, and we however rang him back severally but he ignored the calls.

Photos: Mother Keeps Dead Son's Body For 18years In Family House

A mother whose son died 18 years ago pickled him in alcohol and stashed his corpse in the basement where she has cared for him ever since. Tsiuri Kvaratskhelia keeps Joni Bakaradze’s body entombed in a wooden coffin beneath the family home in Georgia, eastern Europe. But despite having died in 1995, the 22-year-old has remained almost perfectly mummified, thanks to his mother’s constant love and attention. And every year on his birthday she gives him a change of clothes – until four years ago when decay finally made the feat impossible. Joni, whose cause of death remains unknown, is finally beginning to decompose since illness prevented Mrs Kvaratskhelia from giving him the daily care he needs.
