Watch Video : Highlight Nigeria 1 – 2 Uruguay

Uruguay striker Diego Forlan celebrated his record 100th appearance by scoring the winner as the South Americans beat Nigeria 2-1 to keep their Confederations Cup hopes alive here Thursday.

Forlan lashed home a thunderous strike on 51 minutes to reignite Uruguay’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals from Group B following their opening defeat against world champions Spain on Sunday.
Uruguay had taken the lead through defender Diego Lugano in the 19th minute before Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel equalised for the Super Eagles with a rare goal on 37 minutes.

Video Match Highlight: Spain 10 – 0 Tahiti

Spain were in complete control at the Maracana, demolishing Tahiti 10-0 on Thursday to book their place in the Confederations Cup semi-finals. With the world’s top ranked team facing off against a side 137 places lower, pre-match predictions heralded a double digit scoreline, andla Roja did not disappoint, with Fernando Torres scoring four times, and David Villa adding a hat trick of his own.

The Chelsea striker struck either side of a David Silva effort, before Villa added Spain’s fourth just before the break to give Spain a 4-0 half-time lead.Spain’s record goalscorer would add his 55th and 56th international goals in the second half, alongside a Juan Mata piledriver and another pair of efforts from Torres, who also missed a penalty, before Silva added the tenth goal a minute from time.

The result sees Spain join Italy and Brazil in the last four, while Tahiti are all but eliminated, needing a result beyond the realms of speculation against uruguay in their final game to erase their negative-15 goal difference. Vicente del Bosque put out a completely different team to the one that beat Uruguay 2-1 on Sunday, as Javi Martinez, Santi Cazorla and Mata were all handed starts after appearing as substitutes at the Itaipava Arena Pernambuco. It did not take Spain long to get the ball rolling, but Tahiti keeper Mickael Roche will no doubt be disappointed at the ease with which he let Torres’ shot slip past his grasp at the near post.

Torres had a chance to make it 2-0 five minutes later, but he opted, and failed, to lob the keeper, when Villa was in acres of space waiting for the tap in.Certainly, the vast majority of the fans inside the Maracana were behind the minnows from French Polynesia, with every incursion past the halfway line greeted with a deafening roar. But such forays were few and far between, as Spain continued to dominate proceedings despite rarely playing above a leisurely pace.

The stadium was brought to their feet once again after a barnstorming run from Steevy Chong Hue was halted by a cynical Raul Albiol challenge, but Marama Vahirua could not get the free kick past the wall.Jonathan Tehau blocked on the line from Juan Mata, and Roche was again able to tip away from Cazorla as the second Spain goal loomed large, and duly arrived on the half hour mark when Villa slipped in Silva behind the fullback for an easy finish. And moments later, Torres made it 3-0 after breaking the offside trap, rounding Roche and prodding home.

Villa nearly added a fourth 38 minutes in when he blasted into the side netting at the far post, but the Barca striker would make no mistake seconds later, sliding into an empty net after Spain overloaded on a five on one break. [Goal]

Policeman Escapes Lynching By Students In Ibadan

image

A police Corporal, Ajisafe Amos escaped being lynched Thursday by the angry students of the University of Ibadan when he allegedly gave a 400-level student of the institution, Adewale Adegboyega, a hot chase and allegedly shot his car at the main entrance of the university.

Adegboyega, who is a student in the Department of Guidance and Counselling of the institution said he made sure that he ran into the campus because he was not sure of his life in the hands of the gun-totting policemen now that extra-judicial killing is the order of the day across the country.

The police corporal reportedly shot twice with one bullet hitting the rear tyre on campus. As the students heard the deafening noise of gunshots, they reportedly scampered for safety for fear of stray bullets.

Drogba Robbed In Ivory Coast Hotel

image

Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba was robbed at his hotel in Abidjan while on holidays in the country last week, Star Magazine, a local weekly, reported on Wednesday.

The Galatasaray forward returned to his room on the 11th floor of Hotel Ivoire to discover that somebody had removed €7,500 from his luggage, according to the report.

Drogba immediately alerted the management of the five-star establishment, who in turn called the police, but their efforts were to no avail.

A police officer, who refused to be mentioned, said an investigation had been opened and that they would assist the hotel security to arrest the burglar(s).This is not the first time an Ivorian professional is losing money or items to robbers while on holidays.

Stuggart’s left back Boka Arthur was recently dispossessed of his valuables at the same hotel.

Mikel Obi Denies Galatasaray Move

John Obi Mikel has denied making comments about a move to Galatasaray attributed to him in Turkey. Chelsea's Nigerian midfielder had been quoted as saying he was close to a move to the Turkish side, and that he had discussed it with their striker and his former Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba. But Mikel has denied giving the interview and insisted that he never said the words. Chelsea are looking at midfield reinforcements this summer, as Jose Mourinho tries to put his stamp on the squad. The Independent reported earlier in the week they were seriously looking at Sevilla's 20-year-old Geoffrey Kondogbia. Chelsea are also thought to be keen on Wigan Athletic's James McCarthy, likely to leave after Wigan's relegation, and Marco Van Ginkel, the Holland Under-21 player currently at Vitesse.

Goalkeeper Plays Full Football Match With Bullet Inside His Head.

Goalkeepers are used to having shots fired at them during games, but
not usually from firearms.
Amateur keeper Duško Krtalica was playing in a tournament in the
Sarajevo suburb of Boljakov Potok recently when he complained of a
headache. The shot stopper assumed it was the result of striking his
noggin on a post while making a save, so ignored the pain and carried
on playing.
According to Sarajevo newspaper Dnevni Avaz, the 51-year-old completed
the match, but soon complained of a stiff arm and had difficulty
speaking. He was driven to a local hospital, where doctors were
shocked to see that a 9mm bullet was clearly lodged in his skull.
Krtalica was immediately transferred to the department of neurosurgery
and the bullet was removed. A hospital spokesman said the operation
was a success and he is now in a stable condition.

This bizarre story raises so many questions. How could someone not
notice a bullet entering their skull? How could that person feel well
enough to play 90 minutes of football with such an injury? And who
would shoot a 51-year-old man in an amateur tournament?
Only the latter question has an answer, after local police combed the
area to discover that there were three weddings in Boljakov Potok that
day. During at least one of those weddings, someone thought it would
be a good idea to celebrate by firing off their handgun, and one of
the stray bullets managed to find its way from the ether into the
unfortunate keeper's cranium.
According to Dnevni Avaz, a 42-year-old local named Seyne Ligata was
subsequently arrested and his pistol was seized. A further 12 shells
were found near the football field, suggesting it was very lucky that
no one else was injured.
For the record, Krtalica only conceded one goal while playing with a
bullet in his head. Thankfully, Jose Mourinho is no longer working
with Iker Casillas in Madrid, or this story may have given him some
ideas…

Picture : 3 Indian Wolf Sisters Suffering From Rare Werewolf Syndrome

Three of the six Sangli sisters of India are afflicted with Werewolf
Syndrome, also known as Hypertrichosis or Ambras Syndrome.

This is a condition that is so rare, itaffects about 1 in a billion
people on the planet. Werewolf syndrome is characterized by abnormal
and excessive hair growth on the body. It's a genetic mutation, in
which cells that usually inhibit hair growth are left "switched on.

" The Sangli Sisters, residing in central India, acquired their
hypertrichosis from their father. The three Sangli sisters who have
werewolf syndrome – Savita (23 years old), Monisha (18 years old), and
Savitri (16 years old), are forced to use special creams each day, or
else their hair regrows very fast.

Their mother hopes to fund laser removal surgery for them, but the
cost of such surgery is currently out of reach (about $7,000 per
person).

Their mother recalls the day she was forced to marry when she was only
12 yearsold, not knowing about her husband's affliction until the day
of the wedding.

Documentary filmmaker Sneh Gupta wants to make a movie featuring the
Sangli sisters, who hope to become free of their werewolf syndrome so
they can eventually get married.

Other people besides the Sangli sisters who suffer from werewolf
syndrome include Julia Pastrana, who was a sideshow performer in the
19th century, Supatra Sasuphan, a Thai girl who in 2011 was named
world's hairiest girl by Guinness, and the famous family of Burma, of
which the disease spanned 4 generations.

I really feel sorry for them...

Ladies Protest Discrimination against Pregnant Employees

Young women wore fake pregnant belly prosthetics and staged a protest in front of the office of a well-known group purchasing website in Beijing on June 18, 2013, to support the rights of a pregnant employee who was recently fired by the company. The women distributed letters in front of the offices of Meituan.com, appealing to pregnant employees to stand up for their own rights in response to the firing of Meituan employee Bao Yating. Bao began working at Meituan.com in May 2011. In March this year, she became pregnant and informed her boss. When she was asked to work overtime, she applied to the company for permission not to work overtime in consideration of her pregnancy, but the company refused. She went to the media in the hopes of drawing the company’s attention to her problem. Instead, the company fired her without compensation. Bao has since turned to non-governmental organizations for legal aid. “Many pregnant women choose to keep silent when they suffer from undue pressure from their employers. I am determined to fight for their rights and interests,” she said. Bao submitted an application for arbitration to the Haidian District Arbitration Committee for Labor Disputes on June 4, 2013 and the case has been officially accepted.

Eniola Badmus: I’m Healthier Than Slim People

Cross over actress, Eniola Badmus is not finding it easy with critics
who often lampoon her on social media about her plus size. Recently,
she criticised those who made negative comments about her photo shoot
and that has kind of generated a lot of hits.

She was asked why she had to go that hard on her fans over mere
comments about her big shape and she said, "People tend to underrate
just to make you feel somehow or to intimidate you. That's why I say,
I don't see intimidation. If anyone should come out and say 'Eniola is
big! She is that!' For goodness sake, I like it like that. I'm okay.

"Besides, my body shape is giving me money and I'm good. I'm living
well. I'm healthy. I'm sure I'm healthier than some slim people. All
of us can't be slim. People should stop this body-shaming pinging.
It's not nice."

The Gbogbo Bigz Girlz as she is fondly referred to, a name she got
from the role she played in Funke Akindele's movie, Jenifa, fired at
those who make nasty comment on social media:

"Even if you want to advise someone that it's not nice, there is a way
you can say it not by insulting people because you feel you can just
write or talk anyhow on social media. No! Anybody that insults me on
social media, I will insult back. Yes, because it doesn't make one
feel good.

"In foreign countries, intimidation causes some people to commit
suicide. When you are being intimidated, that's when depression comes
up. After depression, you go and die. Me, die because of what? No oh!
This life is too sweet to die, because of words of some people. I'm
okay.

"If anyone doesn't like me, they should keep a distance. The people
that like me will forever be around me. I remember that I wrote, why
use panadol for my headache? Every blog carried it that I said I know
my stature is a big problem to some. But it's the truth.

"Among all of you that are insulting me that Eniola is too big I'm
sure your mum is bigger than me. So why not concentrate on the one you
have? I know one of your friends is bigger than me, or one of your
sisters.

"Most of the fat babes, the plus size people who watch me want to
emulate me because I'm a celebrity. Whatever she does let's do it. You
get it? I know I'm a role model to some people."

(PHOTOS) Meet The 82 Year Old Man Who Survived Without Food And Water For 70 Years

It has been believed that food and water are the basic necessities of
life. But this fact has been proven wrong by an 82 year old man named
Prahlad Jani, who claimed to survive without food and water for 70
years.

He claimed to have left home at the age of 7 (seven) and lived as a
holy man in Rajasthan, India. He believed that he had been sustained
by a Goddess who poured an 'elixir' through a hole in his palate.
This man was regarded as a 'breatharian' who can live on a 'spiritual
life-force' alone. His claims had also been supported by an Indian
doctor who specialized in studies of people who claimed supernatural
abilities. Though, he had been dismissed as a 'village fraud' by
others.

Mr Prahlad Jani was held in isolation in a hospital in Ahemdabad,
Gujrat where he was closely monitored by India's defense research
organization. It is the organization which develops drone aircraft,
intercontinental ballistic missiles and new types of bombs. The
scientists in the organization believed that Mr.Prahlad could teach
them to help soldiers survive longer without food, or disaster victims
to endure until help arrives.

According to Dr G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of
Physiology & Allied Sciences, if the claims made by this man were
verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science as they'll then
be able to teach people to live longer and survive situations of
adversity during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and
other natural and human extremities, where there is little or no food
and water.
When under observation, Mr. Prahlad stood up to the scrutiny and had
not eaten or drunk any fluids for six continuous days and hence had
not passed urine or stool in that time. He remained fit and had shown
no signs of lethargy. In future, doctors had expected to see some
muscle wastage, serious dehydration, weight loss and fatigue followed
by organ failure.
According to Dr. Sudhir Shah, who had examined him in 2003, Mr.Prahlad
had gone without food and water for ten days, in which his urine had
appeared to be reabsorbed by his body after forming in his bladder.
Since his weight had felt only slightly at the end of ten days, doubts
had been expressed about his claim.
It is common in India for Jains and Hindus to fast up to 8 (eight)
days, as part of their religious worship. Facts have that most humans
cannot survive without food for 50 days. Although the longest hunger
strike recorded is 74 days.

READ] : Vector at war with his record label, YSG. Arrested twice by his label

[
One of Nigeria's foremost rappers Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, popularly
known as Vector Tha Viper is currently at war with his label, YSG Ent
- recently discovered to be a division Young Shall Grow Motors
company, led by Obiora Obianodo,  the first son of Chief Vincent
Obianodo, the MD of Young Shall Grow Motors Ltd.

The disagreement between Vector and his label started a few months
back after the rapper complained about his progress-rate and the
label's nonchalant attitude towards his career and simply suggested
more professional hands be employed to help his career, which the
label took as a threat, and when they refused to heed to his
suggestions, Vector hired hands he was paying personally.

He has been with the label for over four years and never asked to
leave, all he asked for according to his camp was more work and
results. Things actually got worse after Vector took a self-sponsored
vacation to the US and returned to his record boss' anger, claiming he
went to the States to sign a record deal. Continue...

Weeks after, Vector received and invitation letter from the
Commissioner of Police of Lagos state and was summoned to the Area-E
command (Festac). On getting there, he was presented with a "breach of
contract" petition, claiming that he has engaged external hands to
work for him. His parents got involved (as his dad is a retired police
officer), and it was settled amicably.

Feeling unsafe and threatened, Vector surrendered the car and
apartment provided for him by the label and acquired a replacement for
himself. Thinking this was over, Vector went about his daily life (as
lawyers were already handling the case) till the 10th of June. He was
to be shooting his scene of the Ghetto RMX video by Shank, at his
childhood neighbourhood (Mcarthy Barracks, Obalende, Lagos), when men
of the police force came to seize him and his personal manager
(Michael Umoru) and took them all the way back to Festac, this time it
was a proper arrest and they were detained from 3pm till 10pm when his
lawyers came through.

According to sources close to Vector, he has been receiving series of
personal threats from the label, and he hasn't felt so safe and really
did not want to talk to the press about it.

Just yesterday, his twitter account(@vectorYSG) with over 100,000
followers suddenly disappeared, and has been confirmed to be
deactivated by his label.

Vectors manager says a new twitter handle @VECTORTHAVIPER has been
activated and is now his artistes official handle, alongside the
launch of his official Website www.vectorthaviper.com. As at the time
of compiling this report, efforts to reach his record label has been
abortive.

Is Wole Soyinka Responsible For Chinua Achebe's Accident? See The Facts

Professor Wole Soyinka has berated critics, who attributed the cause
of late Chinua Achebe's accident that eventually confined him to a
wheel chairuntil he recently breathed his last, to the "spotless ram"
he presented to him as a gift for his sixtieth birthday.

What actually happened? Why are people accusing Prof Soyinka? Details below:

Soyinka, in a release entitled "The Village Mourners Association,"
lamented the reaction of a category of people he likened to "homicidal
clerics," whom he said began to spread the falsehood after Achebe's
burial.

According to Soyinka, it was wrong for people to situate the ram he
graciously presented to a friend on his birthday, which he (Achebe)
warmly received with a comment "Typical of Wole," as the cause of
Chinua Achebe's motor accident. Soyinka tells his own story in the
release.

Here goes the story, for those who seek light relief from ponderous
unctuousness:

"What happened was that I found myself unable to return to Nigeria for
a Colloquium in honour of Chinua's sixtieth birthday.

My dramatic mind immediately scrambled for some striking manner of
compensation. "So I telephoned a business friend who had some
agricultural connections in Delta State and told him: find the
chunkiest, spotless ram in Delta State – all white or all black, but a
thoroughbred of striking physique.

"Find a leather pouch, tie it to its neck with the following message
and deliver it at the venue of the Colloquium. I no longer recall the
exact dictated wording, nothing inspirational, just the usual
felicitations and injunctions to turn that ram into asun for general
feasting.

"Those who attended the event will recall the grand entry of the gift
– as reported by one and all, including the foreign visitors, and
Chinua's reported reaction, seated on the podium. He shook head and
said, 'Typical of Wole.'

"The ram was then led off to meet its destiny at the hands of the
gathered. (As a side note, it was I who took a gift away from his
seventieth at Bard University – a sobering flash of time past that
resulted in my ELEGY FOR A NATION. I had that poem re-published to
mark the day of his funeral.)

"Our story is only beginning. On the way back from that celebration,
Chinua had his accident and was flown to the United Kingdom. At the
first opportunity, I made my way there and called up the High
Commissioner, Dove-Edwin, who was certain to know the hospital
location.

"It turned out that he also planned a visit that afternoon, and he
agreed to give me a ride. We waited – I was joined by two others –
waited, and waited, then a phone call came from him that the visit had
been called off. The High Commissioner would explain why, on arrival –
over a promised dinner, as compensation.

"That explanation was this: Dove-Edwin had received communication that
some of 'Chinua's people' – a university professor among them, who was
named – had pronounced publicly that 'Chinua should have known better
than to accept a spotless ram from his enemy' – yes, that was the word
used – 'enemy.'

"I verified this report from various other sources. Later, an
alternative diagnosis surfaced: 'Chinua had been too long away from
the chieftaincy politics of his hometown, otherwise he would have
realized that the title that he took was coveted by some others – and
these were deeply steeped in traditional psychic combat.'

"In short, those rivals 'did him in.' Both diagnoses competed for
dominance for a while, petering out eventually. "Before the promotion
of that alternative cause-and-effect however, Dove-Edwin had
re-scheduled, and we had a most bracing, optimistic afternoon with
Chinua. Yes, our patient was eventually told the cause of the earlier
postponement, and he had a good laugh.

"On my return to Nigeria, I could not wait to take the opportunity of
a public lecture to invite all desperate enemies to please send me
their rams of choice – spotless, spotted, piebald, striped or
nondescript – so I could treat starving writers to free meals in my
home for the rest of the year. And I promised to taste a piece of each
ram before serving."

Soyinka said it was that same breed that "continues to sow poison in
the minds of the susceptible." He said those people may want to
position themselves of "being there, even when absent," yet they
"ostentatiously" position themselves at the event, or at vicarious
gatherings to denounce, attribute sinister motivations, and inseminate
hate against those whom their "pedestrian vision cannot see."

"Your very loudness proclaims your absence," Soyinka said. "You were
always absent. You will always be absent. So, this communication is
not really meant for you but for those potential almajiri – whose
minds you corrupt daily with your jeremiads in that accommodating
madrassa known as Internet," he said. Addressing his critics, Soyinka
said they should not misinform their audience.

"As a teacher, I lament your failure to use the opportunity of the
passing of a revered writer to turn your younger generation in
enlightened directions. "You have chosen instead to coarsen their
sensibilities and breed in their minds misunderstanding, suspicion and
above all – hate!"

"You will have understood by now how I have come to view you as no
different from the homicidal clerics who arm youths with kerosene and
match, cudgel and knife, a few Naira in their beggars' bowls, and
dispatch them to set fire to structures of comradely cohabitation, of
reflection, of mind enlargement, and destroy communities of learning.

"Your gospel of separatism goes beyond the geographical – in which I
have not the slightest interest! – but the humanistic. The difference
is in the weapon – in your case, poison, mind corrosion.

"The means – Internet, and it's wide open, undiscriminating
generosity. That is where you lay spores of poison, and doom future
generations to a confinement of human relationships within the darkest
corners of the mind.

"You are beyond pity. Kindly absent your selves from my funeral, when
that event finally intrudes," Soyinka said.

Teenager Jailed For Stealing Mobile Phone In Abuja

A Grade 1 Area Court in Mararaba, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced a student, Joseph Olowu, 19, of Aso Pada to 15 months imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone. The judge, Alfred Maga, convicted the accused on a two-count charge of stealing and constituting public nuisance. Mr. Maga, however, gave the convict an option to pay N6,000 fine. The judge also ordered the convict to pay N5,000 as compensation to one Ayuba Tona, the owner of the phone which he stole. Mr. Maga said, "Why will a 19-year-old be engaged in crimes? You should face your studies and ensure that you improve yourself and the society at large.'' He advised the convict to be of good behaviour, warning that the court would not be lenient with him, the next time he appeared before it. Prosecutor Inuwa Maigida told the court that the matter was first reported at the 'A' Division Police Station by Tona of Kabiyi village, Mararaba, on Feb. 10. He said that around 5.30 p.m. on the same day, around the Express Bread by Sharp Corner, Mararaba, Olowu and one Wahab, now at large, conspired and stole Tona's Techno phone, valued at N20,000, his wallet containing N6,900 and identity card. Mr. Maigida said that during a search on Olowu, N6,390 and a substance suspected to be Indian Hemp, were found on him.

"Boko Haram Is Getting Weaker" - Nigerian Military

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Wednesday said the killings of scores of people in Borno and Yobe in the past few days are signs that the Boko Haram terrorists are losing the battle against government forces. The military said the trend of sneaking in to carry out isolated attacks on soft targets as a way of seeking attention is a typical end-game strategy often employed by insurgents all over the world. Seven secondary school students and two teachers were killed in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital when gunmen, believed to be Boko Haram, attacked a government school on Sunday. A day later, suspected Boko Haram gunmen attacked two different locations, a school and a fishing village, in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, killing nine students and 13 fishermen. In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, the Nigerian military said the recent activities are signs of desperation of a decimated insurgent group attempting to hang on to public consciousness. With the destruction of their operational bases and camps by the Special Forces, the group's centre of gravity had been effectively dislocated, he said. He said this had made it impossible for the terrorists to have freedom of action to operate as they did previously. The military also said eight of the suspected terrorists have been apprehended in the outskirts of Maiduguri. The statement said Special Forces have stepped up the mop-up, cordon and search operations "to ensure that the vestiges of terrorism are effectively decimated. "The DHQ has noted a number of attacks and killing of innocent citizens ostensibly carried out by terrorists in Yobe and Borno in the last couple of days. "Although this isolated incidents were undertaken by relocating terrorists, the whole trend and development remains unfortunate and condemnable. "Nevertheless, the public is hereby reassured that these incidences are by no means indicative of a relapse in the counter-insurgency operation aimed at curbing terrorists' activities in the country." The military, however, urged the public to continue to report any suspicious movement to security agents.
