Last night an inquiry was launched into how Manchester City’s Courtney Meppen- Walter, 18, was released just a quarter of the way into a 16-month sentence for causing death by careless driving.
He was expected to be back behind bars soon, but one of the footballer’s friends had already tweeted a photo of him smirking outside prison with the caption: “Fresh out of pizzy.”

The Prison Service said they were taking steps to return him to jail.
A spokesman said: “Police have been informed to ensure he is promptly returned to custody. Releases in error are very rare and we take any incident extremely seriously.”
Meppen-Walter, who captained the England under-18 team, killed Kulwant Singh, 32, and his sister Ravel Kaur, 37, in a crash in Manchester.
Before his release was revealed to be an error, Mr Singh’s angry widow Kushwant Saur said: “This has devastated me. The original sentence wasn’t sufficient in the first place
