A young Lady, Mrs Oluwakemi Salaudeen has pleaded with the oshodi customary court to dissolve her union with Mr. Mojeeb Salaudeen, and grant her custody of her child.
She says she wants a divorce because her husband has abandoned her for a long time and doesn’t care about her and her child after she refused to follow him to a herbalist.
Her words “he asked me to follow him to a herbalist because he wanted to use me for money ritual. I refused to go and because of that, her beat me terribly,” she said.
She added that he left her in the house and went for days without bothering to check on her and her child, and whenever he does give them money, he usually gives them N200 for food, and sometimes he wouldn’t give them anything.
In his defense, the husband, Salaudeen, a 32yr Old DStv installation engineer, says his wife has told the court lies.
He says he is also ready to divorce her but will never allow her to have custody of the child.
His words “I’m ready to take care of my child. Our marital problem started when my wife took our son to her sister’s house for holidays, which led to serious arguments between us,” he said.
He also denied taking her to a herbalist, claiming that he only attempted to take her to a Muslim cleric for prayers.
“I wanted to take her to a cleric’s place, who asked me to bring her prayers. She told me she wasn’t going, but she told her sister that i wanted to ake her to a herbalist for money ritual.Sine then, i stopped discussing any matter with her,” he said.
The court president, Mrs. Ekundayo Oluremi, ruled that since both parties had agreed that they didn’t want to be married to each other again and the law didn’t state that couples should be forced to stay together against their wishes, that the couple, from August 14, 2013, ceased to be called and addressed as husband and wife as their marriage has been dissolved.
She further added that the custody of the child should remain with the father and the mother should be allowed access to him anytime she wants and he should also spend part of his holidays with his mother.
She said if both parties were not satisfied with the ruling, they have the right to file another suit in the high court within the next 30 days.
