Apparently we are in a global recession but it seems nobody has told Premier League clubs judging by their transfer activity already this summer.
With the transfer window still a good few weeks away from its panic buying phase, four sides - Tottenham, West Ham, Cardiff and Norwich - have already showed their intent by smashing their club record transfer fees.
Swansea are likely to join them too after signing Liverpool’s Jonjo Shelvey in a deal that should rise to £6million to eclipse the club’s transfer record... and that’s before you consider Michael Laudrup’s chase for £10m-rated Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony.
And with plenty of clubs yet to make their first move in the transfer market, there could be even more record deals being struck this summer.
Here, Sportsmail looks at how many times each current top flight side has broken their transfer record since the formation of the Premier League in 1992.
