PHOTO: Driver’s Wife Delivers Quadruplets, Begs For Help

A Lagos driver, Kehinde Tijani, and his wife Grace, were recently blessed with a set of quadruplets at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba, Lagos, on October 1.

They already have three sons before the new additions.
Ironically, what should bring joy is gradually becoming a source of worry for this couple, as Kehinde, a driver and Grace, a small-time caterer, were already living from hand to mouth before the four extra mouths put them at crossroads.
The family presently resides in a tiny, rented one-room apartment at Ajangbandi in Okokomaiko, Lagos.
They expressed gratitude to God for the gift of children, but are saddened and fearful of an uncertain future occasioned by poverty and hardship.
Kehinde, who hails from OyoState, said they need financial assistance to take care of his wife and children.
‘I need help’
He said: “I need help. I am a driver. I started driving someone last year and my monthly salary is so meager I can hardly feed three children not to talk of seven.
“I need help please. I want the government and other people, who can, to come to my aid. I don’t have money, I don’t have a house. I need about N1 million to take care of the medical bills of the children and their mother.
“My wife had two Caesarian Sections and since the birth of the babies last week they have been in an incubator. Also, with the arrival of the quadruplets, we need better accommodation for the children.”
I was told I had fibroid— Mother
Grace said: “When I discovered that I wasn’t feeling too well, I went to a private hospital, where they asked me to undergo scan.
“After the scan, they told me that I had fibroid. Then I came to LUTH and after several tests and a scan, it was revealed that I was pregnant with five babies.

“On hearing the news, I got really scared and depressed because of our hard condition. Later, I had a partial miscarriage of one of the fetus because of the fear and depression.
“I have been in the hospital since July. That was three months before I delivered, because of my health conditions. All through this period, my husband had to struggle to make ends meet.
“Things have been difficult as he only earns N30,000 monthly, and we had three children before the arrival of these four.”
Grace from Delta state, said she has no history of multiple birth in her family.
She said: “I have been married for 10 years now. It is only my husband who is a twin. How can I take care of four babies at the same time?
“Please help us. The babies, three girls and a boy, have been placed in the incubator.
“The first baby girl weighed about 1.65kg, the second girl, 1.50kg, third girl 1.6Kg. The only boy tipped the scales at 1.45kg.”
At press time, the doctor that took the delivery was unavailable to speak on the babies chances of survival, but the spokesperson for LUTH, Mrs Hope Nwawolo, noted that the babies are in good health and medically stable.

How Femi Kuti almost went crazy over reptile that entered his car on lagos third mainland bridge on Saturday

Drama ensued at the third mainland bridge over the weekend when a crowd gathered around the car of legendary Afrobeat King, Femi Kuti, to locate a Lizard that almost caused him an accident.
Narrating his ordeal, Kuti, who arrived late to the MUSON Center, where he was a guest artiste at the pre-event press briefing on the coming MUSON anniversary concert, described the experience as horrifying.
He said the lizard appeared all of a sudden, from the dashboard of the car, while he was at top speed, starring at him snappily before ducking away.
“You know, it could have been a disaster if the lizard had run through my trousers, climbing to my private part. You can imagine how jumpy I could have reacted, trying to protect my manhood. Because, that to me is an important part of who I am, I can’t joke with it. Evil people could be at work,” added the musician jocularly, still wondering how the lizard got into his car."

After the event, Femi insisted he will not drive the jeep till the Lizard was found!

Christians In Osun Protest Merger Of Schools By Aregbesola

image
Christians in Osun State, especially members of the Osun Baptists Conference, on Monday protested against the attempted merger of Muslim students wearing hijab with the Baptists High School, Iwo, under the new education policy introduced by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Aregbesola last week inaugurated a new education policy in Osun, which the governor said had necessitated re-classification and merger of public schools in the state to reflect the new education system.
The governor, who expressed worry about the protest, however, urged the people to cooperate with the school restructuring, saying the policy was introduced as part of transformation of the education sector by his government.
Aggrieved Christians armed with Holy Bible and Hymn books trooped to the Baptists High School as early as 7:30am and dislodged the students and prevented teachers from entering the school premises.
They said that the merger of the schools, if allowed to succeed, would obliterate the Baptist heritage and that they would not allow hijab-wearing students in a school founded by Christian missionaries.
The Christian protesters defied the presence of armed security operatives and insisted that they would not allow the merger to work.
Presiding minister for the 35 Baptist churches in Iwo land, Rev. Bayo Ademuyiwa, said the church had nothing against the government’s attempt to equip schools in the state but he said that the church would not allow any attempt to erase its identity and heritage.
He said, “Our forefathers and missionaries sacrificed their lives, resources and everything to establish schools, reputable schools with morals and values and that is why the Baptists in Iwo land are here to protect our schools.“Without any doubt, the Baptists in the state are known for excellence, decorum and dignity.
These virtues are highly cherished by the Nigerian Baptist Convention and this is the reason why the Baptists are making these two submissions which are, “Baptists in Iwo land say no to merger of schools and Baptists in Iwo land say no to the use of hijab in Baptists schools.
“While we welcome genuine efforts to provide modern infrastructures and equipments in schools in Osun State, the Baptists see merger of schools as a step in the wrong direction as it will rob us of our identity and bring more pains to parents and students.”
Chairman, Osun State Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya, also said that CAN would not allow any programme to erase the legacy of the Church.
Ogundiya said, “We have maintained this stand from inception and we will continue to defend lawfully what belong to us as Christians in the state.”
“As a major stakeholder in the state, the leadership of CAN expects the state government to invite us to discuss this issue without delay. We wish to explain it clearly that at no time did the new leadership of CAN in Osun held any meeting with the state government on the issue of merger of schools.”
But the governor, in a statement by his media aide, Semiu Okanlawon, allayed the fears , promising that the interest of all groups, organisations, religious and social bodies would be protected  in the ongoing re-classification and reform.
He urged the people of the state to discountenance and dismiss “any untrue and baseless insinuation” critics of the government might be spreading across the state.

"I didn't want to board the plane..." Feyi Agagu reveals how he survived and why Agagu’s casket was intact after plane crash

In a recent interview with vanguard, a close family friend of Feyi, son of late Chief Agagu, who is one of the survivors of the ill fated Associated Airlines flight, disclosed how Feyi and the other survivors cheated death and why Agagu's casket was intact!
Below is what a family insider Feyi spoke to said;
“The young man said that once they got to the tarmac before boarding and once he sighted the plane, what struck him was the seemingly very old look of the plane. Feyi said he didn’t like the looks of the plane. He also said but for the importance and significance of the trip, his inner sense didn’t feel comfortable boarding the plane.
“In fact, Feyi said he told another survivor, Femi Akinsanya, that the plane looked too old and he didn’t feel like boarding. But Feyi said he was told not to get himself worked up needlessly since this was not going to be his first time aboard a plane neither would this be the first old-looking plane that he would board. That was how he said he boarded the plane”.
“Feyi recounted how he and Femi Akinsanya boarded the plane and moved straight to the back end to take up seats. Why Feyi chose the back seat”, the source said, “was more a function of his state of mind about the state of the plane rather than a preference for taking a back seat.
“When they sat down, Feyi told me that he and Femi simply prayed that they should just take off and land safely, oblivious of what lay ahead of them. “Feyi said once they took off, everything happened so fast. What he also told me was that both he and Femi noticed what looked like a crack not far from where they sat at the rear end of the plane.
“He said everything happened so fast that by the time the plane crashed on the ground, it was that crack that had been noticed earlier that transformed into a gapping exit point upon impact on the ground.
“Feyi said the exit point created was where he and Femi escaped through”.
Also, explaining why the casket carrying Agagu’s corpse was intact after the plane crashed on Thursday morning, it was disclosed that the casket was latched to the hooks in the cargo compartment of the plane and was placed in the rear end of the plane.
People who sat at the back of the plane survived the crash, so the casket, which was kept at the back also survived the crash.

Sex Workers Take Over Lagos Banks At Nights

wpid-prostitutes.gif
Hello handsome. My name is Ella – Emmanuela. I’ll give you a memorable night. If you can’t afford an all night, we can have a ‘short time’ somewhere around. It’ll cost you much less. Just pay the security man there (pointing to a bank opposite) and it’s as good as done,” a call girl on Allen Avenue tells one of our correspondents.
A bank? Yes. By 4pm on any business day, the doors of banks in Lagos State, like in every other part of the country, are shut to customers. But by 10pm, many of these banks play host to another set of customers.
Saturday PUNCH investigation reveals that the numerous commercial sex workers who throng the Allen Avenue-Opebi and GRA Ikeja business districts in Lagos, make use of bank premises to service their customers.
The Allen Avenue and Opebi axis is known as a hub for commercial sex workers in Lagos mainland.
It is not strange to see scantily-dressed young women of all shapes and sizes parading both sides of the road at the Opebi Roundabout around 10pm every night.
As a man passes by in a car, some of them, with heavy make-up and brightly coloured glossy lips, will wave through the window, calling out to such prospective customer, with endearing words like “Hey gorgeous!” or “Hi handsome!”
Every night, this area is always a beehive of activities for these night workers and their patrons.
During a visit to a popular club in Opebi, where many of these commercial sex workers station themselves, Saturday PUNCH had a chat with a young man who confirmed that he had used the premises of a bank for ‘short time’ purpose.
Uche (not real name), 29, is a frequent patron of the Opebi club.
He tells Saturday PUNCH that no matter how tired he is after closing for the day in the insurance company where he works, he likes to visit the clubs in the area.
He says, “I was going home after visiting some clubs in Opebi one Friday night and I was bored. While driving through Allen, I saw a girl that caught my fancy and I stopped to talk to her. I knew I could not take her home. So, I asked where we could do a ‘short time’ and she pointed to a bank.
“I did not understand what she meant. There was an ATM at the front of the bank, so I thought she meant that I had to withdraw money and pay her first.
“But before I could say anything, she said I should go and talk to the security man at the bank and give him N500. She told me the guard would watch over my car as well. After we were done, I gave the girl N1,500. That was a funny time because we even broke the security man’s bench and had to leave in a hurry before he noticed.”
It was indeed a funny story. Saturday PUNCH decided to find out if the premises of some other banks in the area were being used this way. It turned out to be true.
Around 11 pm on a Friday, Saturday PUNCH correspondents posed as patrons of these sex workers.
At Allen Avenue, one of our correspondents signalled to a young woman who stood on the side of the road.
Saturday PUNCH observed that she she was putting on a silky top that was so short that it revealed her belly button. The shorts she wore was outrageously short as well.
She was Ella – Emmanuela. There was no doubt that that was not her real name. The young woman was very fair in complexion.
The discussion switched immediately to how much she wanted for her service.
Ella said, “I just came out and if I have to go home with any customer, I won’t collect less than N15,000 because that means I will be losing other customers. But we can use any of these places around for a ‘short time’.
“The bank?”
“Yes, we use them as well. That will be just N2,500,” she said.
Pretending that she was too expensive, Ella was dismissed.
But one of our correspondents approached the guard who sat on a plastic chair in the front of a new generation bank in the area and asked if he could use the premises for a short time.
“No problem bros,” he said, without any hesitation.
Asked how much it will cost, the guard says N500.
“What will happen if another person comes and wants to do the same here?”
“The person will have to wait now. Unless you don’t mind them doing theirs while you are still there,” the young man said.
Saturday PUNCH visited another bank in the area with similar request.
It turned out that if the price was right, the security guard there too would be willing to ‘let out’ the bank premises for the short service.
“Why didn’t you use your car if you cannot pay N1,000? The security guard, who wore no uniform, said.
When told that the car would not be comfortable enough, he seemed to agree.
He said he will accept N500 but he won’t provide a bench.
At one of the banks on Allen Avenue, however, a guard told Saturday PUNCH that one of the employees of the bank is a regular patron of a club around the area and he could not risk being discovered.
The young man, who identified himself simply as Joseph, said the part of the bank that he could have allowed one of our correspondents to use was not properly concealed from prying eyes passing by on the road.
Saturday PUNCH also had another encounter with a commercial sex worker who said her name was Sade.
At first, Sade said the ‘short time’ would be done somewhere at Ikeja Under-bridge but when she realised that our correspondent did not like the idea, she suggested the premises of a bank.
“We could go to the bank over there. I would give you value for your money,” she says, trying as much as she can to lure our correspondent.
But another commercial sex worker who was nearby had eavesdropped on the conversation.
She walked up to our correspondent and introduced herself as Jennifer after Sade had left.
Jennifer magnanimously advises that going to secluded areas with commercial sex workers was trouble.
She told Saturday PUNCH that some girls connived with street boys to rob their clients before, during or after sex.
Some commercial sex workers are also said to be adept at picking their clients’ pockets.
Jennifer said, “It is a good thing you did not go with her. When you go to somewhere scanty, some of these girls have area boys as friends who protect them.
“What they do is lure men to a secluded place and these men rob them. Sometimes, while having sex, they also pick pockets. I don’t do that.”
Jenifer confirmed that the sex workers had sex with men in the premises of banks around Allen and Opebi.
She said she had taken her clients to bank premises before.
“But most times, it depends on the security guard. They make money from it. Some of the guards make much more than their salary in a week,” she said.
At about 10pm on Monday, our correspondents also visited Isaac John, a popular area for night clubbing in Ikeja GRA.
There, they met some commercial sex workers waiting for customers.
Thinking she had spotted a potential client, a young dark-skinned lady probably in her early 20s walked up to the car.
She introduced herself to one of our correspondents as Ronke. For the night, Ronke said she would accept N10,000. After much debate and when she realised it will be ‘short-time’, she said she would settle for N3,000.
The venue was to a newly acquired property by a bank opposite a fast food joint.
Ronke said, “If we were to go home, it would have been N10,000 but since it is short-time, I will take you somewhere but you will pay me N3,000.
“I can also perform orals, but if you don’t want that, I can collect N2,000 and the gateman will collect N500. I can ask him to collect N300. He would watch the gate for us.
“The place was just bought by a bank. We use the place well so I am sure the man will cooperate.”
Ronke is not so pleased when her ‘potential customer’ promised to call her later that night.
On the same street, Emem, a fair and busty commercial sex worker corroborated Ronke’s claims that the security man will take home at least N3,000 a night.
She stated that they pay him between N300 and N500.
“If you are close to them you go in free at times or at a cheaper rate,” she said.
Emem is not sure if the security men of the banks patronise the sex workers as she said none of them had sought her service before.
However, the activities of the commercial sex workers at the Allen Avenue-Opebi business district seem to be under a heavy police protection.
This is why the commercial sex workers operate without fear in the area.
Saturday PUNCH noticed, on three different nights, that at least three police patrol vans would stationed in the vicinity of the roundabout where the sex workers paraded regularly.
On Monday night alone, there were five police vans in the area.
A young woman, who once visited a club in the area, told our correspondent about how the policemen threatened her with arrest because they thought she was a prostitute who had come there to operate without approval.
The young woman, who pleaded anonymity, told Saturday PUNCH, “I was going to a club in the area with a friend on a Thursday night and just a few metres from where some prostitutes stood on the sides of the road, some policemen stopped us.
“They asked who I was and what kind of job I was doing. I told them I was a student but they said I was a prostitute and will arrest me. I was confused because there were so many prostitutes around there whom they did not arrest. But because I was not known there, they wanted to arrest me.
“We had to go and call one of the managers of the club to convince them I was not there as a prostitute but was there with my friend to relax.
“The club man (manager) who came to my rescue said all the girls around there are protected. But a new girl who comes there to operate will be arrested. Such girls will either bail themselves out with money or with sex.”
Saturday PUNCH notices that the policemen were obviously well-known to the sex workers because of the way they related with them.
Whenever a vehicle passed by, they shone their flashlights into it to see who its occupants were.
But the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Damasus Ozoani, said policemen in places believed to be the hub of prostitution in Lagos were only doing their legal duty.
“Of course, prostitution is still illegal in the state. But how do you prove those ladies you see standing on the sides of the road at that time of the night are prostitutes?
“Gone are those days when you could arrest people merely for wandering in the night. Policemen conduct searches in areas like that when they have genuine reason to believe that some people who have criminal intent may come there to operate.
“Those same ladies you see have the same legal rights to be protected by the police as you and I have. Unless the ladies are caught in sexual acts in a public place, one cannot conclude that they are prostitutes.”
Ozoani said patrol was usually intensified in places like the Allen Avenue-Opebi business district at that time of the night because of the tendency of criminals to operate there.

Sad! Eniola Badmus mourns uncle and cousin who were victims of the #LagosPlaneCrash (photo)

The late father and son
Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus' Uncle and cousin, the Okunsanyas (father and son), were amongst the victims of today's plane crash...may their souls rest in peace!
Until his death, Tunji Okunsanya (a trained Engineer) supervised M.I.C, a funeral home in Lagos.
He handled Goldie Harvey's funeral, AY's Father's funeral and several others.
In a recent interview with PUNCH, Tunji Okunsanya was asked "You have planned other people’s funerals, have you planned yours yet?" and he responded with...

Fortunately, I am in this line and my kids see what I do. You plan yourself as you get older and we have people who plan their funerals before they die.  They even choose the clothes they want to be buried in. My children know what I like to wear but it is always good to plan beforehand because in most instances, your kids will not give you what you want. My children should bury me the way I live."

Resident Doctors’ Strike Paralyses Public Hospitals, Many Patients Left Stranded

Patient and relations leaving the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital ...on Wednesday.
Patient and relations leaving the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital …on Wednesday.
The strike embarked upon by members of the National Association of Resident Doctors has paralysed activities in public hospitals across the country. NARD had embarked upon the strike to force the Federal Government to pay arrears of salaries being owned the medical doctors.
Reports by some of our correspondents and the News Agency of Nigeria revealed that more branches of the association had joined the strike.
Consequently, patients are being hit hard while relatives of some of the sick are being forced to take their sick to private hospitals.
Resident doctors in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Bauchi, Kwara states and Abuja have joined the nation-wide strike called by their national body.
The NARD Chairman at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Dr. Babatunde Babasanya, said on Wednesday that the doctors were seeking the payment of salaries being owed them.
He also said the Federal Government’s implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System had not been effective in spite of the fact that many doctors were short paid.
Babasanya said, “Some House Officers in Lagos have not been paid for four months till recently when they paid them only two months.
“We have been paid as cooks; in a month some of us received N1,000, some N20,000 and some may not even receive at all.”
The NARD boss also said that the residency training programme had come under severe challenges, especially in terms of under funding.
A NAN correspondent, who visited the tertiary health institution on Wednesday, reports that consultants and other health workers were attending to patients.
In Abeokuta, striking resident doctors at the Federal Medical Centre appealed to the Federal Government to embrace dialogue in order to end the strike.
The NARD president at the centre, Dr. Ibrahim Adewale, made the appeal while speaking with journalists on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
Adewale, who noted that patients were always at the receiving end whenever doctors embarked on strike, urged the two parties to resolve the dispute.
A NAN correspondent, however, sighted a few consultants and other health workers on duty at the medical centre.
The Chief Medical Director of the centre, Dr. Dapo Sotiloye, declined comments, saying “ it is between the doctors and the Federal Government.’’
Some of the patients, who spoke in separate interviews, appealed to the two parties to consider the plight of ordinary Nigerians.
One of the patients, Alhaji Fatai Salisu, lamented the attitude of some nurses at the centre and appealed to the doctors to return to work.
Mr. Dada Abiodun, whose wife was on admission prior to the strike, said he might relocate her to another hospital.
Also reacting to the strike, the Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Kwara Chapter, Prof. Mikail Buhari, said the doctors were committed to the full implementation of the strike option.
He said that the strike followed the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum earlier declared by NARD.
Buhari said members were directed to embark on the strike due to “persistent unwillingness of the Federal Government to articulate a comprehensive guideline for residency training.”
Also, medical activities were paralysed at the University Teaching Hospital Ilorin, Kwara State.
Our correspondent who visited the hospital on Tuesday observed that many patients that trooped into the hospital for care oblivious of the strike were surprised when none of the resident doctors attended to them.
Though consultants at the hospital took over the responsibilities of the striking resident doctors, it was obvious that they were overwhelmed by the number of patients waiting for medicare.
Efforts by one of our correspondents to get the responses of the UITH Chief Medical Director, Prof. Abdulwaheed Olatinwo and the Kwara State Chairman, NARD, Dr. Dele Tajudeen proved abortive as their phone numbers indicated they were switched off.
But the Kwara State Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Olayinka Buhari, who is a consultant at UITH, said the consultants had taken over the treatment of patients that were being attended to by the striking doctors especially, those in critical conditions.
Also, doctors at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi commenced strike in the early hours of Wednesday.
A Bauchi resident, Malam Auwal Bala, told NAN that he took his pregnant wife to the hospital around 1am, but was told that doctors were on strike, and advised was to move her to a private clinic.
In Lagos, only consultants offered skeletal services to patients in all the public hospitals particularly those owned by the Federal Government.
President of the association’s LUTH Chapter, Dr. Emeka Ugwu, told NAN in Lagos that they joined the strike on Wednesday.
A Consultant Psychiatrist at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye, said that the resident doctors at the hospital joined the strike at midnight on Tuesday.
In Abuja, resident doctors were on Wednesday conspicuously absent at their duty posts.
However, in some of the hospitals monitored in Abuja except for National Hospital Abuja and University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada which were affected by the strike, doctors were seen attending to patients.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, has expressed disappointment over the strike, saying that the action was uncalled for as those issues brought by the association were already being looked into.
Speaking through his special assistant on media and communications, Mr. Dan Nwomeh, he said that the issues were currently being addressed by a committee set up by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation.
However, the minister said that a meeting has been scheduled with all the parties concerned including the minister of labour, Emeka Wogu on Thursday (today).

Boko Haram: Fighter Jets Deployed In Yobe

Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade
Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade
Fighter jets have been deployed in Yobe State as part of the crackdown on Boko Haram insurgents who killed 41 students at the College of Agriculture in Gujba. The Federal Government has also ordered the military, the police and other security agencies to protect all schools in the state.
There are indications that the state government may not close schools following the killings.
The Defence Headquarters has directed the Air Force and the Artillery Unit of the Army to join forces with the infantry troops, The Nation learnt.
For the third day running, the troops have engaged Boko Haram members in a battle in the forests between Yobe and Borno states, a source said.
The source, who pleaded not to be named, said: Air raid is a vital component of our manhunt for insurgents still lurking in some forests in this axis.
“And with the backing of the Artillery Unit, heavy bombardment has been going on in these forests in the last three days.
“So far, we have been able to dislodge the camps of the insurgents, most of which were just being established along the Borno-Yobe axis.”
The directive to protect schools covers day and boarding schools.
It was gathered that both the Federal and Yobe State governments believe that closing schools will amount to bowing to the wish of the insurgents to stop any form of Western education in the Northeast.
A government source said: “There are some suggestions that the schools should be closed in the state again, but we are not thinking along this line because this might be a defeatist approach. We know that parents and children may be disillusioned but we cannot give up to insurgency.
“We are, however, waiting for a comprehensive security plan from the military and other security agencies on how to provide adequate security in all schools.
“What we have done is to put all communities on the alert to notify the military and security agencies of any suspicious movement.
“The encouragement the state government is getting from all citizens of the state borders on the need to cooperate and resist the insurgents.”
Defence spokesman Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said: “We have a mandate from the Federal Government to protect all schools in Yobe State.
“We have mapped out plans to secure the schools and prevent a repeat of this dastardly act.”
On the combing of forests for insurgents, Gen. Olukolade said: “The operation is still on; we will let the public know accordingly.”

The Anambra State Police Command on Wednesday said it had begun questioning the policeman attached to one of its divisions in Onitsha, caught on video demanding a bribe of N10,000 from a motorist. The state conmmand’s Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said the outcome of the investigation would be made public as soon as it was concluded.
Chukwuemeka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the manner the video was shot made it easy for the authorities to identify the policeman in question.
The police spokesman, who assured members of the public that the policeman would be made to face the full wrath of the law if found guilty, said the police would not condone any acts of corruption.
He said, “His identity was clearly revealed in the video that went viral on the Internet. An in-house investigation has since started and when we conclude, we will make the outcome public. It is noteworthy that the Nigeria Police Force remains one of the few organisations in this country that punishes one of its own whenever they err.
“Corruption is bad and anybody caught in the web of corrupt practices will be punished in accordance with our statute books. All acts of corruption are condemnable and we will never condone it. Corruption is evil. We appeal that nobody condones it.”
When asked for the name and rank of the policeman, Chukwuemeka declined to provide the information and directed our correspondent to check for it online.
In the three-minute 18-second video which has since become an Internet sensation, the man in uniform was seen seated in the front seat with the driver demanding the N10,000 bribe after he had observed some discrepancies between the vehicle particulars and its chassis number.
Several appeals by the driver who was coming from Akure, Ondo State, to Umuahia, Abia State, before he was stopped in Onitsha, fell on deaf ears.
The drivers had explained that the mix-up was unintended, adding that the vehicle was not a stolen one. He even offered to pray for the policeman.

Kwame Bee, the Host of Cruise Control drive time programme on Ghanaian based private owned radio station Hitz 103.9 FM blasted T.B. Joshua and Jim Iyke, on air and in the social media today saying,in this modern world where people are trying to take advantage of God, anything is possible.
“I don’t really believe in this T.B. Joshua and Jim Iyke’s deliverance, I don’t believe in T.B. Joshua and his well-planned Gimmicks. Take a careful look at the video, as a good film maker so you can’t simply tell is not real. It was planned, a lot of pastors do this, is a way to prove they are powerful” Kwame Bee said on air.

Yobe Massacre: Nigeria Is Under Attack – Tinubu

APC leader, Bola Tinubu

Former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday reflected on the killing of over 40 students by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Yobe State. He described it a “one massacre too many”

In a statement from his media office, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader said “Nigeria is under attack.”

The statement, which is a follow up to a letter he wrote to Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, said:

“As a father and leader, I am deeply saddened by the senseless killings of innocent students. It is unacceptable and indefensible under any guise. It is an act that must be punished.

“The recent carnage in Borno State and now at the College of Agriculture in Yobe reminds us of the sinister nature of the enemy our nation now faces.

“There should be no mistake at this sombre moment. Those who launched these attacks did not launch them at the people they killed. They knew not the names of their victims or who they were.
“The dead were just unfortunate souls who happened to be close enough to murder. The real targets of these massacres were our nation, society and any semblance of civilized, modern life. Nigeria is under attack and the earlier those in charge realised this, the quicker the situation can be arrested. In terms of security, the present is not safe, neither is the future secured.

“The killings at the College of Agriculture were particularly jarring. Under cover of darkness, evil crept unto a campus of higher learning, turning it into a place of slaughter.

“These murderers snatched the lives of young people who were just entering the fullness of life. The attackers fell upon them so early that many of the students were still in bed.

“These young people only wanted an education to improve their future and that of the nation. They
were armed only with this desire and with the tools of students. They had done no one any harm.

“Yet, their attackers executed them in the cruelest fashion. This is terror in its basest form. By this act, the crazed and armed menace we face tells us that attending school, attempting to get an education, is now a capital offence. Those guilty of seeking to learn are to be executed.

“This is a dire affront to fundamental humanity. It is also a frontal attack on our quest for economic development and social progress. Those that did this seek to cast a veil of fear and ignorance over Nigeria. We must remain steadfast in the belief that enlightenment and progress is best for our people.

“These killers want us to hide in the shadow of fear and live in the cave of ignorance. We must be brave enough to tell them “no.” No matter how they try to frighten us, we shall walk in the light of learning, justice, hope and tolerance, unity and progress.

“What we face is nothing less than a contest for the soul of the nation. We dare not lose the contest. These young people died just because they wanted to learn and live better. We can’t allow their deaths to be in vain. “Thus, we must rededicate ourselves that all of our children shall learn and live better because of the education they shall receive.

“We must look beyond the deaths and spilled blood of these innocent children. In times like these, it is easy to give up and recede into our fears. Yet, we must be of good courage. We must not give way to sorrow or despair. We must forge ahead with our best plans and preparations for the people.”

That said, we must beseech the federal government to tend better to our security. I make this not as a partisan jab. I make this as a Nigerian who sees the larger danger lurking behind these attacks. These murderers seek to shutter the educational system in the north. Should they accomplish this, they will only attack another social institution, then another, until all are flattened. They intend to make Nigeria desolate. In their warped minds, this will be paradise. Paradise for them will be purgatory for the rest of us.

With grim determination that Nigeria shall overcome this pestilence and that justice shall ultimately prevail, we cannot give up and retreat from the task of governance and building this nation. We must be of good courage. We cannot allow their violence to dictate the path that we must go.

They see a nation they want to destroy. I see a nation we should build. We shall win. They may have guns and terror. But they lack the moral force to stop us from building the nation we seek. We have justice and right. We shall win. They shall lose and get swept into the wash of history. The only issue is how long will it take and how many lives will be lost before this evil folds. Again, this is where the federal government must become more proactive in developing a comprehensive law enforcement, intelligence-gathering and economic incentives strategy that checkmate this plague.

On such a grave matter of national security, there is no partisanship. We are all Nigerians. We stand ready to help in this fight. We await the call of the Federal Government to do so.

Our condolences are extended to the governor of Yobe, the people of the state, and the families of those killed. Your grief is heavy and thick because of the senselessness of this tragedy. But you don’t carry this grief alone. All Nigeria grieves with you. Those were our children, too”.

Presidency: North Should Wait Till 2019 – Ex-Minister

Chief Ebenezer Babatope

A former Minister of Transportation, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has backed Jonathan’s 2015 bid, asking the North to wait until 2019 for their turn.

Also, a former governor of the old Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said President Jonathan is a tool in the hands of God to implement God’s designs for Nigeria.

He said Jonathan’s tolerance, cool-headedness, fear of God and respect for people and their constitution had neutralised Boko Haram violence in Nigeria.

The duo spoke during the state’s 17th anniversary public lecture organised by the Bayelsa State Government in Yenagoa on Monday.

Other dignitaries at the lecture which took place at the state’s Banquet Hall on Monday evening were a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Na’Abba; Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State; his deputy, Rear- Admiral John Jonah (retd.); elder statesman, Chief Diete Spiff; Speaker, Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Konbowei Friday; and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kate Abiri.

Babatope in his lecture, had described Jonathan as a detribalised Nigerian, whose right to contest the 2015 presidential election was non-negotiable.

“If Jonathan declares to contest the 2015 election, I will be among the people that will campaign for him. I submit it is right and proper that the Ijaw man, President Goodluck Jonathan, completes his term in 2019. After that, if I am still alive, I will be one of those that will fight to ensure the North have its turn in 2019,” Babatope said.

Ezeife said through Jonathan’s style of leadership, which could not be compared with any President before him, had been able to contain the Boko Haram’s insurgency.

The former governor said, “Jonathan is a tool in the hands of God to implement God’s design for Nigeria. His tolerance, cool-headedness, fear of God and respect for people and their constitution has neutralised the Boko Haram sect. We must sympathise with the aggrieved people, even as we must not allow injustice to take root. And we must not be provoked as to endanger, Nigeria, which our God Almighty has given us. Everybody knows who would lose most, should the unthinkable happen.

“Which President had faced determined efforts to making the country ungovernable, under him? If we help put a bag of salt on somebody’s head and make rains to beat the person, do we have a right, at the end of the rain, to ask how much salt is left in the bag?”

Ezeife also said for Nigeria to survive as one united country, there was the urgent need to restructure the country for efficiency and effectiveness.

Dickson, in his remarks, said a new Nigeria was born with the election of Jonathan, a man from the minority tribe, as the President of the country.

He sued for peace in the country, stressing that Nigeria was not only a country of contradictions, but had endless potential, which if well harnessed, would drive the nation’s socio-economic and political development.

“May I call on the present generation to learn to see national issues as they are. Because it is when you have a nation, you can have a G7 governors. Disagreement is healthy – whether we agree or not, it is legitimate. All politicians are ambitious and ambition is legitimate but the way you go about it matters,” Dickson said.

Na’Abba, speaking on the theme, ‘Good governance as a panacea for promoting a stable and sustainable democracy,’ said good governance should be the hallmark of democracy.
He said in view of the myriad of problems confronting the nation, there was the need to guarantee good governance and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

We can’t help but notice the gleeful manner in which media personality Toolz is holding the bouquet. This photo was captured at the wedding of PR guru Vanessa Amadi, CEO of VA-PR, which held yesterday, Saturday September 28th in the UK.
As the tale goes, catching the bouquet simply means you will be the next bride, we hope that is true in the case of Toolz.
Genevieve  was also spotted at the wedding, looking chic in a blue wrap gown, hair packed up with a flowery necklace.
Singer D’banj did the orange number which is very unusual for a guy to wear but he rocked the color well.
