Policemen attached to Ogijo division in Ogun State, yesterday, engaged a four-man kidnap syndicate in a shoot-out, killing one of them.Rescued at the end of the shoot-out were two Chinese men said to
have been kidnapped in Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
The kidnappers, as gathered, laid ambush for their victims who are staff of LEE Group of companies at about 1a m. They reportedly forced them into their BMW car with number plate CK 737 LSD and drove straight to their den somewhere in Shotunbo village in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Confirming the incident, spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, said: “The Chinese, Song Jiang She and Zhang Wen Xue, were rescued unhurt after policemen from Ogijo divisional headquarters led by the Divisional Police Officer, Toyin Afolaogun, a Superintendent of Police, stormed the kidnappers’ den and engaged them in a gun duel.
“In the process, one of the kidnappers who was fatally injured was arrested while others fled with bullet wounds. The injured kidnapper later died.”
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, visited the kidnappers hide-out, yesterday, and ordered that it to be cordoned off and placed under surveillance for further investigation.This, he said, was to prevent the kidnappers from using the remote building located three kilometres away from Sagamu/Ikorodu road for similar operation.
“The CP has reiterated the command’s commitment to make Ogun State hot for any hoodlum or group of miscreants who may want to cause untold hardship on the good people of the state,” Adejobi said.
He said three locally made pistols with some live cartridges, masks, handsets, dangerous weapons and the gang’s operational car were recovered from the den.
