Lagosians spend N36billion annually on parties - Governor Fashola Reveals

Lagos state governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, this weekend revealed that more than N36 billion is spent by Lagosians annually to organise parties. The governor said this at the 4th edition of the Lagos Ignite Enterprise and Employability project, a joint youth empowerment programme between the government and the Afterschool Graduate Development Centre, AGDC.

Governor Fashola said:

“This was the study of night life carried out by the government in five local governments including Agege, Mushin, Ifako-Ijaiye and Ikeja and another local government. It showed that more than N36 billion was spent on 1555 parties held within the period. We did a study between October and November last year. We studied from Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, three days every week for four weeks which was 12 nights. In 12 nights, 1555 parties were held in these local governments. In terms of drinks, food and all other engagements during such parties, about N1.2 billion was spent and when we dis-aggregated them we saw how much went to DJ, MC, food and drinks, the total picture in the state now and I don’t want to give you a wrong number but it’s something in the region of about N3 billion monthly on that side of our life and people are playing and impacting on that side of our economy.

 The governor further stated that Aso Ebi alone gulped a minimum of N1.2billion monthly.

Rapper Olamide has shown how generous he is!
The young artist who has got success at his heels, doled out N50, 000 to a lucky fan on twitter on Monday!
The "durosoke" crooner, initially tweeted  "share your riches with the poor make dem nogo share with u tomorrow" and of course, the tweet garnered lots of re-tweets from his 200,000+ followers, however a fan replied the tweet by asking his idol (Olamide) for N10,000.
Surprisingly, Olamide not only yielded his request but gave him x4 of the amount he asked for. Trust Nigerians, the action was followed by numerous requests which he granted.

May we know who Okiki Afolayan Is?
    My Name is Okikiola Omo Afolayan, I am from Kwara state but was born and breed in Lagos to be precise Mushin(Omo Mushin ), Am the fourth child in a family of five, I Attended Anwarul Islam Agege for my secondary school couldn't further because of financial incapability so i moved into theater arts and i have hope to further more at God's time.

What do you do?
    I am a film Producer and Director, I started my career as an Actor, years back in 2002 under Dejo Tunfulu when I later discover acting is not really my way, I stopped and a picked up a form as a continuity manager under Mr Olumide Adedayo, as time goes on i started doing different things apart from the continuity manager.

What are the different things  You did?
    Firstly i started Directing films my first film was titled Mr Kola followed by Aya wa  ni and many more, I also writes story as well Directs movies (Director).

How many films av you Directed so far?
    I have series of films that i have Directed, e.g OJIJI MI written By Toyin Aimaku, April Fool, Mona, Jamal, Oge Aseju, Iyefun, Dagbere etc.......

Aside From Home Videos Do You have any TV Programmes you produce?
    Yes I av,There is a TV programme am Directing titled Jeje laye, it is showing on Galaxy and Mitv for now.

Do you still act?
    No I don't because i don't see acting as my way

Briefly explain your challenges so far in the industry?
    So far so good I av not really face and hard challenges because Its my way , Its what God really want me to do that am doing and I pray I don't face any till I retire from the field.

We have so many Director in the industry likes of Tunde Kelani,Kunle Afolayan,Adebayo Tijani, etc.How do you cope, Do u see them as any threat?
    Smiles.....No, I don't see them as threat but as my boss, they are very nice to me because they encouraged me to do what am doing now, have worked under atleast 98percent good director in the industry as a continuity manager before picking up as a director and they all support me base on the experience they know i av gathered from them.

How do you describe your achievement in the industry?
    My achievement so far in the industry is just like a miracle because between a blink of an eye i got to 60% of where God is really taking me to.

Any Award so far?
    Yes i was given an award from Legacy caucus voice of art, the Award was base on my achievement in the industry and I was also nominated for the Best Director in the City People award though I was not given.

Who is your role model/mentor?
    Niji Akaani, He is the Director of Heroes and Zeros and He was Awarded as the Best Director in African twist.

Are u Single?
    Yes I am single but engaged......Smiles.............

How do you handle your female fans?
    I handle my female fans with care because fans is very important in every celebrities life.

Whats your relationship with Toyin Aimaku?

  Toyin Aimaku is just my very good sister nothing attached, Infact I so much appreciate her because she have contributed to my career positively.

Whats the naughtiest thing you have done on set?
    Hmmmmmmm, Yes i sent make up artist away on set based on a little mistake

What is your advise for the upcoming Producers?
    They should just be focus and determine till they achieve their goals, although we pass through so many difficulties but with God all things are possible because that is what I believe in and Its making working for Me

So Sad - 19 year old Teenager, dies in her sleep while on family trip

A 'lively and caring' teenager died suddenly during a family trip to support her aunt in a charity triathlon.

Rosie Carter, 19, was found dead in bed after travelling with her family to the Welsh seaside town of Tenby to support her aunt in the Iron Man extreme triathlon.

Her mother Emma Carter-Desai, of Andover, Hampshire, said the loss of her eldest daughter had been 'a living nightmare'.

She said: 'She was gorgeous in every way. So loving to me - life will never ever be the same.

'She was the most loving sister and made me laugh. I cannot imagine our lives without her but can only hold on to our good times together.

'My heart is so empty but my family and my amazing friends are with me.

'Our house will never be the same. I have comfort in the fact she was with us all when she died and was happy with her life the way it was.'

Rosie's death, on September 8 has been referred to the Pembrokeshire coroner who will decide whether to conduct an inquest.

The cause of her death is currently unknown but her family has asked for any donations to go to Epilepsy Research UK.

In a tribute the family said: 'There is now a very lively angel in heaven. You will shine as the brightest star in the sky.

'You were a caring and beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and a friend to many.

'In your short 19 years you have impacted positively the lives of so many and shall never be forgotten.

'If our love could have saved you, you never would have died. You would have lived forever.'

Heartbroken boyfriend Ryan Jones had to celebrate his birthday just a week after the shocking loss of his girlfriend.

He took to Facebook to say: 'I still can't make sense of what has happened but everyone around me has been there to talk and so supportive.'

A British architect shot dead in the Kenyan mall massacre along with his partner were just weeks away from having their first child.

Ross Langdon, who had dual Australian nationality, and his heavily pregnant partner Elif Yavuz were gunned down by terrorists who stormed the Nairobi shopping centre yesterday.

According to the Foreign Office four Britons are among the 69 people slaughtered by the terrorists believed to be from Somali Islamist group Al Shabaab.

Mr Langdon, 33, had been involved with a number of projects across Africa, which included designing an HIV-Aids hospital in Kenya free of charge.

The London-based architect could be seen photographed with Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, in a picture posted on his Facebook profile earlier this year.

Harvard graduate Ms Yavuz was eight-and-a-half months pregnant at the time of her death.

The malaria specialist was working in Kenya for the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation run by the billionaire Microsoft founder.

On her Facebook profile she was photographer shaking hands with former US President Bill Clinton during a visit to a Gates Foundation project last month.

Born in Holland, Ms Yavuz had lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, while studying at the renowned Harvard University.

Today the architectural practice where he worked as a director said in a statement: 'We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss our friend and colleague Ross Langdon and his partner Elif Yavuz.

'Profoundly talented and full of life, Ross enriched the lives of all those around him.

'Ross's leadership on projects throughout East-Africa was inspirational.

'Ross was living his dream, greatly contributing to the lives of people within highly disadvantaged communities and supporting habitat conservation for some of the world's most threatened species.

'Ross will be very, very sorely missed. Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with Ross and Elif's families at this very difficult time.'

Today tributes were paid to the couple via social media.

One friend, Arah Nekoei, wrote: 'We will miss you, Elif Yavuz, Ross Langdon and the one that we never got to know.'

Islamic terrorists who have been barricaded in a Kenyan shopping mall today threatened to kill all their remaining hostages as special forces moved in to end the two day siege which has left 69 dead.

Witnesses said they heard this morning multiple large explosions within the vast Westgate Shopping Centre in Nairobi and there were reports of gunfire in the streets outside.

Thick black smoke was then seen billowing from the mall.

The Foreign Office confirmed today that four Britons have now been killed in the atrocity.

Kenyan troops have moved in to end the siege but spokesman for terror group Al Shabaab Ali Mohamud Rage said in a statement posted on an Islamist website that those held inside will 'bear the brunt of any force' used by soldiers against the militants.

The statement read: 'We authorise the mujahedeen inside the building to take actions against the prisoners as much as they are pressed.

'We are telling Christians advancing onto the mujahedeen to have mercy for their prisoners who will bear the brunt of any force directed against the mujahedeen.'

The Al-Qaeda linked group claimed to be in contact with the fighters inside the mall and said the gunmen were battling both Kenyan and Israeli forces.
