A young tailor, Mrs. Kehinde Babalola, has pleaded with the Agege
Customary Court to dissolve her union with her husband, Mr. Morufu
Babalola.
The couple lived together for eight years and they have two children:
a girl and a boy.
Kehinde told the court that her husband was always beating her because
there was no more love in the marriage. She said she wanted the
custody of her children.
Babalola, a meat seller living at 14, Micheal Olufade Street, Meiran,
told the court that all the claims made by his wife were false;
stressing that he was ready to divorce her.
He said his wife fights with everybody in their neighbourhood,
including their landlord's children.
He said his intervention in one of such fights landed him in police
cell, where he spent three days.
He said his wife is adulterous and that he knows four men that she has
slept with.
He said he had caught her on four occasions with those men but because
of the love he had for her, he overlooked all her unfaithfulness.
He said even after her wife's relatives came to beg on her behalf
because of her behaviour, she still didn't change and it got to an
extent that people in the neighbourhood call her 'Animashaun,' meaning
a free giver.
He said, "My wife is mentally deranged. I took her to Aro Psychiatric
Hospital in Abeokuta, where the doctor told me that she had a mental
problem.
"Although it happened in 2009, she still exhibits her madness
sometimes, like the time she came to dump my last child on the floor
in my yard close to the bush around 11 pm."
He added that she was travelling to Ilorin with the children when she
suddenly got down from the bus, after telling the driver that she
wanted to pee, but she entered the bush and never came back until a
week later when she was found in Ijebu Ishara.
But the wife denied what her husband told the court.
She said when she had her first pregnancy; her sister took her to a
church where they told her that her stay in Babalola's house would not
yield anything but sadness and a terrible illness that would affect
her for a very long time.
She said it was her husband who sent her to Ilorin when a cold breeze
blew her and she became unconscious.
She said her husband would always sleep at home to monitor her
movements when his mates were selling their meat at the market.
"I sell yam on the street and my husband sees all my customers as my
concubines. He would beat me every time with the cane he uses on
cows," she said.
Kehinde said she was perfectly okay before she married her husband but
became ill after he got to his house.
She said she decided to take custody of her children when she heard a
message from a church that her husband's family never wanted him to
marry a wife not to talk of children.
The court president, Mr. Emmanuel Sokunle, told the husband that he
should take the children away from his step mother and bring them to
court on the next adjourned date.
He said it was a wrong and dangerous thing to take his children to his
step mother.
He later adjourned the case till June 17, 2013.

Why it took me so long to launch my album
I just wanted to take out time and make good music. There are some
people who do yearly albums, I try to do like two or three years.
There are people whom I emulate. I feel that as music is a craft, you
must try to make sure you put out good materials that can stand the
test of time. It is not something that can be relevant for only two
months or a year. You want something that is good.
My Lasso of Truth album
I'm very happy; I have got a lot of positive feedback. The sale in the
first week was great. They made about 500,000 copies and it is almost
sold out. The sales did very well because the demand is high. I did
not even know that the demand was this high, even outside Nigeria, We
have been working out platforms where we can sell the album. People
outside the country ask whoever is travelling abroad to buy the CD in
bulk for them. The demand is that high.
If not music, I would have loved to be a teacher
I might be fun to be with, but I'm not a comedian. My mother wanted me
to practice law, but I wanted to teach. I have always wanted to teach,
I would have been a teacher. I don't know why I have the capacity to
get people to listen to me. Right now, I'm part of an organisation
that mentors young girls. You know when you sit with young girls and
you are advising them, if it is someone else advising them, deep down
they might not listen and think the person is spoiling their fun. But
I come across as somebody who has been there, done that and got the
T-shirt. So they listen. I think it would have been a beautiful
challenge for me to be a teacher. I'm sure I would have been worried
about the pay but it would have been flexible enough for me to have a
family as well as enjoy what I'm doing if I was not into music.
My early days
I had many experiences but I'd like not to embarrass myself. I was
very mischievous as a kid. I used to get into a lot of trouble. I had
a lot of older ones, so they used to deal with me a lot. They would
say, 'Omawumi don commit again'. I was the sort of person that would
steal my elder sister's bra and put socks inside; that was when I was
bare-chested. The sad thing is that when the thing now came out, it
just came out at once. I did the usual things that children do. I
can't say most of it in print. If my older ones should read it, they
would discover some things I did back then. I was pretty much a normal
kid. I used to play a lot but my parents made us understand the value
of education.
Year 2013 so far
I have got four endorsements this year. It has been fantastic. The
thing about it is that I have been working towards things like this
for a while. The way my work is, I have a healthy fan base. I have the
kind of music I make and the kind of people who like it and it appeals
to. When it comes to endorsements, I'm really grateful to God. It is a
process, if you work and you put out good material and you are
relatable, it's a good thing. The fact that I can market so many
products proves I'm a true Nigerian. Without blowing my horn and in
trying to be as modest as I can, I am educated. Most parents want
their children to be educated and even if they want to pursue their
dreams, they use me as an example. I pursued my dream but at the end
of the day, I got the basic education. Is she street wise? They use me
as an example. Even though you are educated, it doesn't mean you
should be dumb. There are some parts of my life I feel people make
comments, like 'she is a single mother'; it is not supposed to be
celebrated. The plus side of it is that I have a beautiful daughter. I
figured that it is better for me to keep a life that God has given me
as opposed to killing. That it didn't work the way it should work or
that I am not married, it is still a process, I am still a human
being. That is also relatable. It is not like they say that when you
get to a stage and you don't get someone to marry you, you go and get
pregnant. Some of my friends, when they look at me and say they want
to be like me or that they don't have time for men, I tell them no.
Circumstances and life brought it upon me, I would not regret one day
of it. I am happy with my daughter, I am happy about the family that
she has and the one I have. Nonetheless, it is not something someone
should come out and say this is the way to go.
Criticism
I'll tell you the truth, I'm indifferent. I have developed a thick
skin. I would not say that from the outset it never affected me. But
it didn't mean I put my hand under my cheek and started brooding. I
was just worried why this sort of thing happened. I am a solutions
kind of person and so I started looking for solutions. I found out
that there was no solution. Whether you like it or not, people must
talk about you. The more mysterious you are, the more stories would be
woven around you. I figured that you win some and lose some, you
cannot have it all. The day you are the focus of the press, you just
say by God's grace, this too shall pass. I don't like it when people
form an opinion about me out of negative publicity, especially when it
is not true and it affects my career. That is the part I don't like
because I believe everybody puts a lot of hard work into their music.
That's why I always tell people, I'm not an angel. That is why I
encourage people to just enjoy the music. It is the music I am giving
you, not my personal life, not who I am.
My first crush and boyfriend
I can remember him. I think I 'died' for him so much I cannot remember
how he toasted me. You know when you like a boy so much and you try to
catch his attention. He was my elder brother's very good friend and it
was like a taboo to have anything to do with your elder brother's
friend. The elder brother would beat both the friend and the sister.
That was the sort of position I was in. I still collected the beatings
because when you are blinded with love, you would stick with the boy
no matter what. Eventually, we were so in love for a long time.

damaged! The accident was caused by a bust tyre. Wizkid, who wasn't
the one driving, was quickly taken away in another car. His bodyguard

"At 3:30Am me and my friends were about to leave the Nokia Lumia beat
party at the Oriental hotel . As we waited for a cab it was raining
all of a sudden we heard a loud noise behind us. We turn to check what
has happened, right in front of our eyes we saw a car making drifts
and wanting to tumble …first we had the shocking/ trilling feeling we
got to actually experience such a magnificent incident… As we rush
down to check if their was any survival all of and suddenly we
realized it was star boyz new porsche car with the plates 'W' as we
approached further the MAN OF STEEL (star boy) walks out not only
saving him self but along with the girls with him lol, without any
scratch or injuries.."

I realize that my country people underrate you. Because you are big

comes up. After depression, you go and die. Me, die because of what?
No oh! This life is too sweet to die, because of words of some people.
I'm okay. If anyone doesn't like me, they should keep a distance.
The people that like me will forever be around me. I remember that I

Are you involved in an NGO?
I want to start one that has to do with Asthma. I found out that
people battling with Asthma are not well taken care of. I want to use
this Non governmental Organisation (NGO) to contribute my quota and
give back to society.
What is marriage to you?
Obviously, marriage means union, togetherness of two people. Why is
everybody asking me when I'll get married? I will get married in due
time. The due time might be tomorrow. But I'm not a loud person when
it comes to things like that. I don't broadcast things like that. Or
is it because I am big so you think I can't get married? Whoever says
that is foul because I have best man in this world right now. So what
are you saying? Pleases I neither want to talk about my man nor
disclose his identity.

Fashola, Ribadu Mourn Abibatu Mogaji’s Death
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) described as a great national and personal loss the death of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, the pioneer Iyaloja /President General of the Market men and Women and mother of the former Lagos State Governor , Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a condolence statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, Fashola said the mother of his predecessor in office and National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) throughout her life time was a forthright defender of the people and their right to economic empowerment adding that this trait has been imbibed by anyone, who has had the opportunity or privilege to fall within the ambit of her influence.
According to the Governor, this peculiar trait is evident in the personality of her illustrious son, Tinubu, a leader with the love of the people at heart.
Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji was a frontliner in the commercial development of Lagos State, particularly Lagos Island, which was formerly dominated by the Lebanese and Greek Merchants.
He said: “She was one of the pioneer traders, who ventured into the capital intensive and risky business venture of importation of consumer goods, thereby breaking the monopoly previously enjoyed by the foreign tradesmen and her business acumen attracted the attention of Multi-National Enterprises operating in Nigeria then, who had no option but to register her as a business partner and distributor of their consumer goods in Nigeria.”
Describing the late Iyaloja-General as a great matriarch, the Governor said Alhaja Mogaji did not limit her business and social networking to the confines of Lagos State alone, she was always seeking for the welfare of market men and women as well as ways of opening up more business opportunities for them.
“This attribute of hers must have informed the unanimous decision of all commercial traders regardless of ethnic, religious or political persuasion to select her as the pioneer Iyaloja/President-General of Nigerian Market Men and Women. A position she has handled with utmost responsibility and diligence, he said.
Governor Fashola said Alhaja Mogaji would be sorely missed by noting that he would personally miss the motherly guidance and affectionate of the deported matriarch of the Mogaji Family.
According to him, this becomes more so at this time when the nation needs more men and women in the mould of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji who would show leadership by using their gifts and talents to contribute to the development of Lagos.
Praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed, Governor Fashola expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the First Lady of Lagos State, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola and his family, to the ACN National Leader, the entire Tinubu Family and the people of Lagos for the great loss.
Similarly, former boss of the Economic and Financia Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former ACN Presidential Candidate, Malam Nuhu Ribadu said: “The death of mother of ACN National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhajat Abibatu Mogaji, is the drawing a curtain unto an era of courageous women movement that characterised independence struggle and beyond, in Nigeria.
“I am sorrowed and shocked over the death of this renowned women leader, who I believe is the last of exemplary amazons.
“Alhaja Mogaji's doggedness, resilience and selfless community service were virtues that would remain indelible in the face of Nigeria’s history and non-state movements in black Africa in general. I hail her entrepreneurship acumen and how she carried many budding entrepreneurs under her wings into building their own financial empires.
“Her death is not only a loss to her immediate family or the people of Lagos state. Personally, I considered her as a mother-figure and source of inspiration who remained a devout Muslim and committed to improving lives of others up to the time she breathed her last. She was a true nationalist and a bridge builder.
“ We will miss her a lot.
“I pray for the repose of Mama's soul and extend my profound condolence to the immediate family, the government and people of Lagos state and Nigerian market women and the entire Nigerians over this irreparable lose.”

Mother of Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji Is Dead
Market Women and Men, is dead.
The frontline leader of Lagos State Market Association and mother of
the former governor of Lagos State and leader of the Action Congress
of Nigeria, Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji Tinubu, passes on this Saturday
evening in her Ikeja home.
